Re: how to use my webcam on my gateway laptop
Hi, The webcam just needs a program to be used with, such as Messenger or Skype. If you want to record movies with it, you can download and use Videocaster, and choose Capture Video from the main menu. In Messenger, you login and go to Tools > Audio and Video Setup, and click Next past the audio settings, and, in the video settings, choose USB Video Device from the list, and press Apply. In Skype, you login and choose the same device, but you go to Tools > Options > Video Settings.

It would be helpful if we knew the Make, Model and the OS you are using. What software are you trying to use with the Cam? Have you setup the webcam in the software settings? Have you verified the Webcam in Device Manager, Imaging Devices? Installed? Enabled? Open the Laptop manufacturer's webcam software to verify it's working.
Dear Tori, Greetings from New Zealand! You have not supplied much info - so we'll start from the beginning...SAFELY Remove web-cam connection - (I presume it is a USB connection?) - by R-clicking on the little icon - usally green - in the systray by the clock, & following instructions. Have you installed the web-cam "driver" software from the cd that came with the web-cam? If not then do so. Plug in web-cam USB & wait until pop-ups notify you that web-cam device is detected & ready to use. L-Click on "START" > All Programs > Web-cam program. If this option does not work/is not available, then OPEN "My Computer" & click on web-cam icon. This should start web-cam software & you SHOULD see your smiling face on screen! If Nothing works - then you will have to make a note of the model & contact Gateway for support. I hope that this helps! GBU! - Bruce.
Hello! You can use a screen with a webcam, if your motherboard supports a webcam. The screen with a webcam would have an additional plugs, that need to be connected to the motherboard. I suggest that you buy a used computer with webcam instead.

this is an easy one to solve! my brand new gateway fx was giving me some problems with the web cam which was ticking me off as i just spent over 1500 on this ******! make sure u turn off and EXIT the program software for this web cam before using it with a messenger! for example, on mine, it was giving me probs with msn messenger! i had to turn off the gateway cam center so that it was conflicting together and "telling itself" that another program was using it! hope this helps!!
You've got graphic rendering problem bcos, the webcam drivers installed in your laptop don't work correctly. ie) the driver installed forces your webcam to take a snapshot at a resolution that is not supported by the webcam hardware...So, tell me ur laptop model number and I'll let u know abt the drivers....
