E4 = Compressor Overload: this code means that one of the safety overloads on the compressor has activated.

Diagnosis: the compressor has both an electrical and a temperature overload device built into it. The thermal overload will trip if the internal temperature reaches 154.4° Fahrenheit. This error can be reset by turning the unit off and allowing cool down before turning back on.

Causes

Blockage in the refrigerant circle,
(a high pressure on the liquid side, over 350 psig, and a low suction side, under 40 psig, indicates a blocked cap tube).
If a blockage is diagnosed, the system must be evacuated, blown back and cleared.
If this is the case
I recommended that a filter/dryer be installed in the vapor line before pumping down and recharging.

Condenser fan not working, if the compressor runs, but the fan does not, the motor or its capacitor may have failed. Repair or replace as necessary.

Compressor problem, if the compressor has developed internal faults, it could simply be starving for oil.
Any other internal problem with the compressor will mean replacement is necessary.

Compressor wiring, if the compressor and/or its capacitor have been wired incorrectly, the compressor could overload.
Rewire as necessary.

Carrier ac E4 error

If this is a ductless mini split e4 appears to be an air temp sensor on the indoor or outdoor unit that is sensing an abnormal reading. Check air filter and both I.d & o.d coil cleanliness. Its hard to troubleshoot without a model number. If its a 38g or 40g in the model number its a discharge temp sensor reading high temp situation (dirty o.d. coil, low freon, refrigerant restriction. Again, need a model #

Anyone know where I can get a fan motor for the indoor unit of my centrex CTAR65GW split system air conditioner. i think the motor may be generic for most of the cheaper split air conditioners. Denis

Hi,
I buy alot of those motors through www.grainger.com

match up the hp, rpm, shaft size, mounting, voltage, etc... this can take a bit, but you will find a motor for partically anything there...

Yes. If the gas is leaking the unit needs to be repaired and recharged. Recharging requires special license, tools and knowhow. Joe

Centrex a/c keeps shutting off every 15 minutes ( split system)

To start, check your condencer fan and make sure the condenser is clean. After that you will need a technician with instruments. If the switching off is constant, after approx. every 15 min.it could be switching off on high pressure.

Centrex a/c playing up, in warranty but company bust??????

Pretty much you are out of luck. If you were my customer I would at least take that into consideration when billin. The contractor was responsible for the first year of labor, this is a nightmare for them also imagine if they have done lots of these.

Centrex airconditioner

I bought a house with one already installed. Found that it isn't switching from 'hot' to 'cold' After time the unit will beep and flash LED's on the unit itself and then switch off. Rather handy on 40 degree days. Good luck sourcing parts for the unit as the company have gone bust. I do know an honest working fellow that installs units - he suggests that Kelvernator are a no go, Mitsubishi, Panasonic are the ones to look at. Pay the extra cash for a brand name, they're less likely to go bust for a start, and if there is a problem, parts are readily available.
