Motorola T9500XLR, need to change faceplate

Recently bought the T9500XLR radios that come with two other color faceplates. I would like to change them but I can't find a screwdriver (as it is screwed in and not a snap on) that is star shaped, big enough or small enough. You would think the website would sell them or they would come with it!

Thanks, I thought that might be the answer!

The screws for the faceplate are superficial. It pops off with your finger nail. You only need a torque wrench to gain access to the guts of the radio.

This is a common size metric torque screwdriver. Visit your local auto parts store, Radio Shack, or 2-way shop to borrow or purchase the torque.

I am trying to reset Motorola MTX4550 radios to factory settings

Dealer programming. There is a reset in the software, but none without the Motorola software and cables. This prevents employees from "resetting" their radios "by accident".

Only scans on monitor

Check the programming. I don't know what term they use, but on hook, or off hook scan enable/disable is something to look for in the programming. This is often in a sub menu under options or scanning. Most radios are programmed to scan "on hook" which means when hung up. But most can be programmed for other methods.

Radio Resets when I PTT

1) You were right to change to new batteries. Yet, the problem you describe is the same problem that would present itself if you had bad or poorly charged batteries. Check your contacts where the batteries touch inside the radio for damage or film/debris. Clean with a pencil eraser.
2) Is it possibly you have changed a setting, or have your radios programmed to a repeater (duplex only) frequency? Reprogram (if possible) your radios to a very basic setting with the code set to zero (off), and all special features turned off. Then using a basic radio-to-radio frequency test the radios again

3) If reprogramming is not possible due to the radio shutting itself down, then you have a battery or charging problem. Be certain the radio is turned off when on the charger and the battery is clean and inserted the right direction. Try charging both radios overnight. Observe your charger, does it seem like it is operating properly?

Basically, problems are either the radio, the battery, or the charger. By process of elimination you should be able to determine which one is the culprit.

Best regards.

Radio Resets when PTT

You have a bad or poorly charged battery. Transmitting takes more energy than receiving, so it is the first to fail.

Is there a difference between a Motorola Mdl: T9500 and a Motorola Mdl: T9500XLR?

Just spoke with Motorola's consumer division at 800-638-5119, and they tell us there is no difference between the radios. These were two different production runs and the Marketing Dept. called one XLR and not the other.

Cobra microtalk LI 7500 WX

fyi my Cobra microTALK LI7500-WX came out of the box with one of the radios slightly off frequency, limiting range to about 100 ft. I was able to use a counter to fix it. The freq adjust is under the front faceplate that covers and protects the LCD screen, pry it off to expose one tuning pot.
