Question about Dell 948 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Dell 948 printer "carrier jam" and cartridge stall

Every time I try to print on my Dell 948 printer it comes up on the screen with "cartridge stall" and asks me to open the cover and make sure the cartridges are snapped into place and nothing is blocking their movement. I have done both these things, and there doesn't seem to be any problem, but it still won't print!!
At the same time, the printer itself carries the message "clear carrier jam".
Please help!

SOURCE: error 1203 and carrier jam error

Error 1203 on a Lexmark is an issue that occurs either when a cartridge is bad or the printer cartridge Slot is bad... I would suggest you to try cleaning the copper contacts of the both carts and cart slot in the printer and try again..

If that doesn't work just call up their support number and check for replacement..

SOURCE: my dell all in one 948 printer keep sending a msg

Hello there this may work for you, it has worked for many here I given this advice so gave it a try it could work for you. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there.

And gave the rode that the ink slides on a good clean and maybe a bit oil on cloth and wipe the rod with it.

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

SOURCE: Carrier jam

The carrier Jam message refers to your ink cartridge housing, belt and primer buckets. The problem is usually either paper stuck in the belt, or a sticky head primer. The print heads eventually get stuck to the rubber primer stoppers to the right or left of your printers hidden area.

Open the door to your printer the same as you would when replacing your Ink Cartridges. The printer ink carriage should immediately slide over to the middle. If it doesn't, you just found your problem. This also applies if the heads try to move to the center and fail. You will have to work them loose from the primer and slide the heads over to get to the primers. Clean those with windex or something non petroleum based. Alcohol will soften and weaken the primers rubber heads, so avoid using it.

The final cause will be a dry guide rod.
This is usually very shiny and chrome plated, and can be cleaned easily. Use alcohol on the rod, then lubricate with Vaseline, applying a very thin even layer.

In rare cases your belt could be broken, but this is very unlikely.
If it is, you won't need help finding it. The end will be dangling and obvious when you open the top.

Clean the carriage rail. This is the round chrome piece that the carriage assy that holds the cartidges rides on. Use a paper towel that is slightly moist.
Be sure to not force anything. Unplug the printer after you get the carts in the middle. Move them to one side and clean and then move them to the other and repeat.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

How to replace the ink cartridges on a Dell All-In-One 948 Inkjet Printer

    1. Turn the printer on.

    2. Lift the printer unit.

    3. The ink cartridge carrier moves and will stops at the loading point unless the printer is busy.

    4. Press down on the ink cartridge lever to raise each ink cartridge lid.

    5. Remove the old ink cartridges from the printer.

    6. If you are installing new ink cartridges, then remove the sticker and transparent tape from the back and bottom of each ink cartridge.

Note: If you are wanting to print photos you will want to install a photo cartridge along with the color cartridge. Also if you are switching between the photo and black cartridge but they still have ink in them be sure to store then in an air tight container so they do not dry out.

    7. Insert the new ink cartridges. Making sure that the black or photo ink cartridge is secure in the left ink cartridge carrier and the color ink cartridge is secure in the right ink cartridge carrier.

    8. Snap each lid closed

hmmm...not too good on this one. Seems that maybe there's some paper jamming the runners or mechanism under the head carrier. Check that first, but be careful, since it's delicate under there

    Carrier Jam

This happens, when printer is old one or it has either dried ink on carrier stall bar or some obstructions. Move the carrier stall manually 3-4 times from left to right and then take a damp cloth and clean the metal bar on which carrier stall moves. If you have kleenex and WD-40 nothing like that. Lubricate the bar, with that or some other lubrication agent. Do it once in a month, if printer is too old and/or u use a refilled cartridge. Dell is great!

Carrier jam on dell 924 printer??

I was able to fix this issue on my all-in-one 944 printer. What happened was that one of the ink cartridge lids had popped open. The hard part was that the carrier was stuck on the far left side, and I wasn't able to pull it over for easer access. However, I was able to fit a finger in and push the cartridge back down. Then when I turned the printer back on the error went away.

    Hope this helps

    Ink cartridge

Not quite sure what you mean but if it is stuck under the housing then that would give the error. Could it be that the cartridge wasn't installed straight and this has caused it to become jammed?
