I know it does dvd r/rw/+/-, lightscribe both cd and dvd, cd r/rw/+/-..in regular sizes (ie, 4.7gb, 80mb respectively)...but does it do dual layer?, in the case of dvd will it handle an 8.4gb dvd, for both read & write..coudnt find any specs on it anywhere....thanks for the response...

Bottom Line: I have a file which is about 7.3gb and dont want to go out and buy DL dvds to burn it unless I know the drive will be able to write to it...those dvds are kind pricey...around here at the local Staples you get 3 for about $15, which is about 5 per dvd...too much if they dont work.....gotta it??????

thanks, I couildnt find anything at HP, I upgraded my zd8000 from a CD burner to a cd/dvd lightscribe burner and couldnt find any specs on it.....thanks again.now I can buy the DL dvds...the machine is worth it...you cant even find a laptop with DUAL Pentium 4 processors and the fact that these dual processors run at 3.2ghz is amazing..I wouldnt trade this machine for 4 of the top of the line current pieces of garbage..........thanks again

Here is what the HP site quoted as specs:

Optics: Matshita DVD-RAM Uj-861H (CD-ROM / -R/-RW - 24x/24x/24x,
DVD-ROM / ± R / ± RW / ± R DL - 8x/8x/6x/4x)

Looks like + and - R Dual Layer is a go!

I need to know if my DVD Drive can burn dual layer Discs. The Discs are DVD+R DL and my dvd drive is an Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200A ATA. Thanks

Hi anternidrumm,

According to the site below, the drive can burn dual layers discs:

"The 20x DVD multi writer opens up new dimensions for flexible read and write functions. This high-performance DVD/CD-burner is able to read your DVDs at a speed of 16x and CDs at 48x. It also brings fascinating dynamics into play when writing your blank disks. Now it can even write DVD-R DL two layer media at 12x, while reaching a speed of up to 20x for DVD+R and DVD-R. DVD+R9 and DVD+RWs are processed at 8x and DVD-RWs at 6x. And DVD-RAM can be recorded with up to 12x DVD speed. So how fast can it burn my CDs, you might ask? Even here, with speeds of 48x (CD-R) and 32x (CD-RW), it’s at the top of its class."

Bluray disc doesn't work in my computer vaiovgc-lt25e

Hi carlos,
The reason for this is that Bluray is a different file type than DVD.  That means that a DVD player can only handle certain file types of which Bluray is not one of them.  The drive you are using is a DVD drive.
Unfortunately the only way to play a Bluray disc is with a Bluray drive.  These can be purchased at any computer or electronics store and are becoming quite competitive in price.  That or you can return the movie and buy a DVD or CD version of the disk.
Hope that helps, and please don't forget to vote/rate!

My matshita uj-860s disc drive has stopped working

In my case, MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S did not want to write CD-R,-RW Verbatim using software NERO 8, but is easy to write their own software windows XP.
in the Log file was as follows:

Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

Power calibration error

whether

Invalid field in parameter
E: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S

ACTION! :)
Change in method of recording NERO 8 Burning mode: DAO (Disc-at-once) at Burning mode: TAO (Track-At-Once) all have established!
Simply drive MATSHITA was UNSUPPORTED software producers to write disks.
Updating the software to burn CDs, as is windows XP supports the recording and includes drivers for the drive! :)

Good luck!
