This is most likely the capacitors on the power board in the monitor, if your comfortable wkith opening it, and good with a soldering iron, etc
then you can most likely fix it, just look at the CAPs and you'll probably see them fat! or some gew on the top of them!!

LIGHT GONE IN SCREEN

With the unit turned on, turn off the lights and with a flash light shinning at the LCD screen, do you see any images ?

If so, the Back lights or inverter have gone south.

That is a cheap 17" unit and would not be worth the repair cost.

Monitor won't display. Everything is plugged in and power is on

Might not getting any signal from the source ,you will have to try your cpu else where with same vga cable to figure out whether its your monitor or your cpu tower.

rdsellers54, Can you see very faint image on the lcd panel if you shine a very bright flashlight 1 inch from the panel at different angles? Yes = 5v dc supply ok, lcd 12v dc not ok. No = 5v dc and 12 vdc not ok. You or technician will need to check units "switch-mode-power-supply / CCFL power supply dc rails first. This display no different than any other cold cathode fluorescent lamp back-lit lcd monitor on the market today. Unplugged monitor. left home for a couple of days. Plugged monitor in and got no picture. Turned CPU on and off and the CPU does recognize it, but still no picture. the monitor power button just flashes.

Try it on another PC, if it still does not work and you want to DIY repair, please read below and look at pictures.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

It is a dell 17 inch monitor

The logic board on the LCD panel itself goes out a lot on that unit. If you have everything but a picture then that is the problem. Rub your finger on the screen if you see light behind your finger but no picture then this is definently your problem. If there is no light then your inverter is the most likely problem. www.lcdrepair.us sells all parts for that unit.

check for loose connection of the video cable connection on the system unit (CPU). blinking may indicate that there is no signal transferred from the cpu to the monitor!

Sony Monitor ... SOMEONE HELP, please!

Thanks for your response. I actually sent my monitor out to guy that does LCD repairs for cheap. He changed out the video board and did repairs similar to yours but still couldn't get the monitor to work. After some more testing, he found that one of the chips that contained Sony's proprietary firmware had gone bad and said there really was no way to replace the chip. It definitely seems like we had the same problem, so I thought this information may help. I'm sorry that you paid so much for repairs that didn't solve the problem.
