Thnaks for the fast reply Jerry! I will call Panasonic tomorrow am. It is a brand new set, watched it only for about 1 hour, if that. I am very disappointed. I may dispute the charge on my credit card if they dont replace it with a new one.

thanks for th info. Luckily i bought the 5 year in home warranty. SO how ever often they have to be here is their problem. I have another flat screen in the Living Room i can watch while they camp out in the rec room eash time it breaks. I think it is a crime they way they make stuff these days. When i was a kid it would have ruined the reputation of a company to have this happen. But we have become a society of sheep putting up with all kinds of **** from corporate (rip off) america. I will certainly bad mouth Panasonic if they resolution is not quick and lasting.

Without investigation it is impossible to know what failed. There are a number of boards in that set where there is fairly high current used. It is possible that some components have failed.

The Panasonic service rep would service the set by swapping out the failed modules. If the set is an older model the modules may no longer be available. You can take the set in for an estimate to see if the parts are available, and to see if the set is worth to service.

    Just as an added comment:

You should read your warranty agreement. Upon acceptance of the set you agreed with their warranty contract. Most of the large retailers will exchange the set within 31 days of failure. This is more for their public relations than what they are obliged to do. The smaller retailers and distributors cannot afford to do this type of public relations. And, because of poor sales and a slow economy things are even worse.

From what I have read on the warranty contracts is that the manufacture has the right to service the existing set or exchange it for what they call a refurbished set. The regulations for this may vary from one location to another. I went through this with a computer monitor and a GPS. I had to accept a refurbished in both cases.

Your credit card company cannot supersede the legality of the purchase contract. It would not be in their interest to fight the vendors on this type of thing because the vendors pay them a percentage for each credit card sale. Most vendors pay the credit card companies between 1.5% to about 3% depending on their volumes of sales.

Panasonic Viera tc-p65s2 - 7 blinks, won't turn on

I had the same problem with my Viera. if you disconnect the power and ribbon cable from the YSUS board (check youtube for how), the light led will blink 6 times, indicating the YSUS is bad. Check ebay for TNPA5175 board (about $115-160). The pop is one of the DG402RP chips burnout. These are about $4, but only available from China. If you can wait a month for delivery, you can solder the new one to replace the bad one. You may want to purchase several in case more are bad or it happens again.

Following a audible pop TH 50PZ85U will not power on.

Most common thing to happen is a capacitor went bad on one of the circuit boards making the loud POP sound. Odds are it's on the Power Supply Board if the TV isn't showing power at all. The picture below what a bad capacitor looks like.

They range from different sizes and color. Swollen, deformed, and raised top is the thing to look for.

Solder in a new capacitor on the board or replace the whole circuit board.

Iwas watching my panasonic plasma and the screen went green.

One of the "Y" buffer boards have failed. The buffer boards are located on the left side of the set looking from the back. There are two of them. One for the upper half of the screen, one for the lower. Disconnect and replace the one that had the blank portion of the screen.

No picture or sound

Make sure that there is actualy power going to the AC power source where the TV is plugged in. You can re-set the TV by disconnecting the power for about 10 seconds and then connecting it back again. If the set still does not start it will require service.

If the set is dead it is most likely the main power supply board that failed. The service tech would replace the power supply and also investigate to find the cause of the failure. Sometimes another board could have a failure and cause the power supply to be damaged.

If the set will not start up, it will require shop service. You can call Panasonic tech support to find out the authorised service rep for your area. Check to see if the set is still under warranty. If not, it will be expensive to service.
