I have a bunch of music on my computer, and have even been able to transfer it onto the Philips GoGear (4gb) in the past, but now when i plug it in it says my device has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it. Might i have to download some kind of a driver and it might work?

DO NOT FORMAT THE PLAYER!!!!

Your player is operating normally.
Instead of giving you step-by-step instructions, I would highly advise that you download a full copy of your user's manual at www.usasupport.philips.com

The general procedure is:
Plug the mp3 player into the computer
Download a song from a music service, or insert a CD into your computer's CD-ROM drive
Open Windows Media Player
Click the Rip or Sync button, depending on whether you are loading songs from a CD or from a music service
Drag the songs to the window pane under the Sync tab
Click Start Sync
Wait 2 minutes after it says transfer is complete, even if your player says OK to disconnect
Disconnect your player form the computer and play your songs

There is a lot i left out, but that is the basic procedure

In your Windows media Player go into tools and select options. Select rip music and untick copy protect music. The music you have in WMP wont work. you will have to put them in again after you made the changes. Hope this helps

I just bought a Philips GoGear 2GB MP3 player today, i just can't figure out how to get music on it It keeps giving me an "error" message! This is so frustrating...god.

Connect the usb. Install drivers if necessary from CD included in package then browse "my computer" for the "phillips drive". Copy your MP3 files to the "music" folder.

How do u download music for your mp3 player im new to this :(

Subscribe to an online music service that is compatible with your GoGear, such as Rhapsody's Mp3-Only service - I repeat MP3 ONLY - no other Rhapsody service will work.

Use Windows Media Player to transfer songs to your GoGear, or Rip CD's into Mp3 format - I repeat MP3 FORMAT - using Windows Media Player.

Videos must be transferred using the Philips (Arcsoft) Media Converter that came on the installation CD. You can also get this program from Philips website.

You will only be able to transfer photos to your GoGear if you have used the installation CD that came with the player. It contains a critical file that Philips has never posted to their website called the Philips Device Plug-In.

The Philips site offers the software you need.
If you have the Musicmatch player or windows media player 10
you should be able to download from either player

Is it possible to download music to the Philips GOGEAR MP3 4gb player WITHOUT windows xp?

You would have to go on the site and download the software for Windows 2000 ( I saw they have a version for Philips Manager for other versions of Windows)

Phillips GoGear 4Gb - Can't sync songs onto player...

This is only a makeshift solution.
I use a philips gogear sa52xx and found out, that deleting the drivers, then reconnecting the Player and pressing F5 in the explorer allows me to normally access the philips gogear sa52xx for about 30 seconds. After that, out of nowhere the drivers will sever and the Code 10 error appears. So, another disconnect - deinstall of the driver - reconnect - F5 in the explorer until the Player appears and then sync. The proplem is, that this works best (maybe only) with mp3 files...
So convert your music files into mp3 first, than do above steps for drag 'n' drop.
Usually, you need to do the whole procedure 2 times for a CD, sometimes 3.
