Question about Samsung HL-R4266W 42" HDTV-Ready Projection Television

Whining Noise and Image Problems

I have had the Samsung HL-R4266W for about 2 years. A couple of months ago, I started noticing a whining noise from this TV. Now when I turn the TV on, occasionally the whining noise will change pitch while pixelation occurs in the image. Sometimes, the picture will go away entirely, but audio will remain momentarily. Sometimes the set goes into standby and Stby/Temp, Lamp, and Timer Flash.

1. I believe the lamp needs replaced.
2. Could the whining and pixelation be a failing color wheel?

You better to check the color wheel or Lamp ballast.

Normally, the noise comes from color wheel.

If this is happening instantly.......I guess that the color wheel is not starting........if you hear the whining noise(the wheel) then the problem may be with the ballast or Lamp

Well that whirring noise is most probable to be the color wheel. Funny thing you replaced it a year ago. But it's most probable that is the issue. You did get the right one, did you? Because with Samsung TVs they have 2 types of color wheels, either gold or silver bearing.

Samsung DLP HL-R4266W..no sound or picture. TV is completely dead

Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel.  If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync.  The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.

Samsung dlp

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
