Question about Microsoft HP Pavilion DV6276US Notebook PC

1 Answer

I have an older HP laptop with no wireless capability. We have DSL with the wireless router connected to our desktop. The only way I can access the internet is by putting in the AT&T air card. I don't want to have to use the air card paying extra money each month when I pay good money every month for DSL. Can I install something on my laptop. I also can't find the disc's that originally came with it. I certainly hope you can help. Thank you, Justin

You can connect to the Internet using your DSL wireless router by several methods.
1. If your HP has a LAN port the you can connect to your wireless router with a LAN cable (provided you have a spare LAN port on the router.
2. You can use a USB wireless adapter to connect to the wireless router.
3. You can use a PCMCIA wireless card to connect to the wireless router.
Both the wireless USB and PCMCIA wireless adapter are approx. $50, my preference is to use a PCMCIA adapter, it leaves the USB port free for other devices, such as USB memory sticks, especially if the laptop has only one USB port.

How can i connect in dsl modem with laptop?

If your laptop has no built in wifi, a USB receiver can access nearby (wireless capable) routers or router/modems. Otherwise a CAT5 cable can hardwire your computer or laptop to a DSL modem. CAT5 is a little wider than telephone connectors. Then install drivers (and make sure the modem is compatible with your providers requirements, they are not all the same.)

Belkin 54 Wireless Internet Connection Problems

Hello,

If wireless adapter on the laptop is fairly old, you may need to update the drivers for the wireless adapter. Some older wireless adapters are not capable of properly communicating with WPA devices. Typically a driver update of the laptop resolves the issue. If not, try another wifi adapter and verify it is not the OS or laptop itself.

Good Luck.
