If your using anything other than brother ink it must be very compatible.
Generic ink will dry and clog the ink jets, I suggest you replace with brother cartridges and clean ,clean, clean. If problem exists you'll
have to get a ink syringe, some paper towels to place under the print head. Fill the syringe with hot! water and send just a little through each hole where the ink would go in from the cartridge. Be Very Careful not to inject to much justs enough to loosen the the dried ink and free the the jets. I take no responsibility if you get it wrong. I was able to correct the same problem with mine the same way and never used generic ink again. You can do it! and save on repair bills.

Hi I have bought new in black cartridge and nothing .what should i do ??? Have MFC -790 cw all rest collor printing good only have problem with black one .

Did you use Brother Genuine Cartridges?????

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

If you are using Generic, replace them with Genuine Brother Ink Cartridges.
Good Luck

Black ink on my Brother MFC-420CN is faint and streaky

You said you replaced the cartridges. Were they Genuine Brothers' Cartridges?

My Brother MFC-240C, does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. That sounds like your problem. Also I had with Brother's was problem with Color. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, or Blue Green, etc. The Generic Cartridges, also printed lines thru the words. That's what the Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges.

Some Printers, are able to use Generic, but you have to fill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY, or Take them to have them filled.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for the PRINTERS.

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Replacing the cart holder on a Brother MFC 240C

Somethings that have worked for some Brother owners to get cartridges recognised.

1. With your MFC powered up, open it up and remove the cartridge you are having a problem with, then close the MFC, leaving it powered up. It should report that there is no cartridge in the machine.

Still with the MFC powered up, open it up and reinsert the ink cartridge, then close the MFC. It should either ask if you have replaced a cartridge or go into its cleaning mode.

Answer "yes" to "have you replaced cartridge?" and it should either "print" or "clean" and then "print".

2. The cartridge holder in the printer has an "electronic eye" (light sensor) of some type for each cartridge.
Some users have found that putting either permanent marker/sharpie/black PVC tape either on the area of the ink cartridge that goes near the sensor or alternatively putting tape over the sensor itself allows printing to occur.
The problem with this method is that the printer will no longer recognise near-empty cartridges and so will not warn you to replace them and so the print head may be damaged. This is said to work on LC57 icartridges used with the following models: DCP-330C, DCP-350C, DCP-540CN, DCP-560CN, FAX-2480C, MFC-240C, MFC-440CN, MFC-465CN, MFC-665CW, MFC-685CW, MFC-885CW, MFC-3360C, MFC-5460CN, MFC-5860CN.

Ink "new" , yet not registering as any in machine. Help please.

I'll bet you're using cheap generic ink, after having used real Brother ink cartridges. It sees and it knows the ink is generic (apparently by measuring the electrical resistance of the ink). I'm in the midst of the same issue and am going to try using real Brother cartridges to see if the problem goes away.

Brother MFC 5840 Printing

That might be because of generic ink!
This generic ink destroys the nozzels due to a chemical reaction!

If you re lucky you will have good results when useing original brother ink carts.

Run the cleaning procedure twice after you have inserted the original carts!
