Samsung 50" DLP Lamp died, new lamp will not light`

While unit was powered up and working, picture turned to black and white, froze - then went all black with snow band on the bottom. After short while powered off, the unit came back up normal - shortly there after the blackout sequesnce reoccurred. Trouble lights indicated lamp failure, replaced lamp unit will not light up new or old lamp. cannot even get the maintenance mode to display on the screen - only 3 lights indicating lamp failure.

    Thanks ND,

Yes I replaced the ballast to no avail, unit makes the same struggling sounds at power up, and never lites the lamp. One thing I have found short on a lot of posts - if you continue to help people in this forum, is that there is a counter that should be reset when the bulb is changed - sequence is from the maintenance manual

"Power off, mute,1, 8,2, power on" - it will put the unit into service mode. Please share it if you like. Thanks for your reply - I've got a deal for any authorized center that needs parts...

    Enjoy.

Bad news.  Mine did the same thing.  Mine is the 61", but the internals are basically the same.  I replaced the lamp and the problem was fixed.  Then after a couple days, it died again.  I replaced the ballast, to no avail.  Took it to the certified repair center and they said I needed a new DLP Light Engine.  They wanted $1250 to fix it, but I was able to order one online from partstore.com for $700 and fixed it myself.  No problems since.
Your certified repair center will charge a minimal fee to diagnose and then you can fix it yourself if you choose.
The easist fixes for the lamp problems are A) replacing the bulb and B) replacing the ballast.  Anything else, you'll want a certified tech to diagnose the problem.

Thanks scott.  I don't believe the lamp hours counter has to be reset.  It is more informational in nature.  With that said, it is a best common practice to reset the lamp hours counter when you replace the bulb, according to the directions you provided.  At a minimum, it implies how soon you might have to replace the next bulb.  Strangly enough, I have had my 61" for 5 years and my 50" for almost 6, and haven't had a bulb fail yet.  I have had ballasts, light engines and digital boards fail, but not the lamp... :-)

Sounds like the old lamp blew and took out the ballast. I believe that you need a new ballast for your unit. The other possiblity would be a problem in the low voltage power supply but if the indicator lights are blinking the most likely problem is the ballast.

I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4977572-when_change_ballast_in_dlp_tv which explains the problem, how to repair it and where to get the parts. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks for using FixYa and the generous rating.

Sounds like you have a bad color wheel assembly which is located in your light engine assembly.

Samsung dlp

HLS4266W 43" dlp. In less than 1 yr whining grew worse, but did know what it was. Year passed with warranty and lamp went out. Replaced lamp. Worked for 3.5 hrs. Turned on next day and did not work. Got another lamp, but did not work. Figured out might be color wheel. Replaced it too. TV started up. Watched that night. Turned on next day, heard loud pop. Lamp never came on. Withdrew and reinstalled lamp a couple times to see if that worked. Did not. Currently, with new lamp and color wheel installed, lamp light blinks, but no lamp comes on. What now?
