Scanner won't initialize

I have Mustek Scanexpres A3 USB scanner that locks up whenever i try to scan

    When I try to scan using XP, it says the scanner is in use...? Now I'm totally confused

    Ok Chris, here's how it went. When the "Found New Hardware" wizard opened and I clicked "Advanced", "Next" then "Browse"...the folder where I downloaded the drivers does not open...I saved the drivers in a special named folder for easy location. I go to the folder...nada. I'm stumped

    OK, I re-installed as per instructions. The scanner did one scan and is now acting stupid again. I'm going off to bed. I'll try this again tomorrow

Hi,
It could be something to do with the bundled software having a missing or corrupt TWAIN32 file.. But you can Scan using Windows XP itself.

    Sorry to keep you waiting so long, mate, I was a bit busy!
    Ok.. this might seem a lot of work, but I think it's necessary to fix it once and for all..
    First unplug the scanner from the PC and the power, and uninstall the Scanner driver.
    Next, download nCleaner, install it, and run. Click the Clean System button and that'll open a page where you should click Clean Registry, on the right hand side. Don't change any settings, just click yes each time it asks you. Now exit.
    Now download and install the latest XP driver for the Mustek A3 USB from here.
    Unpack the exe installer by double clicking on it. This will extract the driver files.
    Power up and Connect the scanner.
    After the "Found New Hardware" wizard appears, select 'Advanced' and click 'Next ' to continue installation.
    Then 'Browse' to the location of the drivers.
    Click and execute 'Web.exe' and then 'UP_lib.exe'
    Reboot.
    Try to Scan now.

    Let me know how you get on with that..

    Okay, maybe I linked to the wrong driver version or something..

    Probably best that you enter the correct details for your scanner, seeing as you have it in front of you..

    btw it said this on the correct driver page:

    Make sure the device
    is not plugged into the computer during the drivers install. After all
    the files are installed plug the device into the computer. DO NOT PLUG
    DEVICES INTO "FRONT" USB PORTS ON THE COMPUTER AS THESE ARE "HUB" PORTS
    AND the system may not "see" the device.

    Just double click the .exe file, and install it. Then, if prompted, connect the scanner. If you are able to finish the install without connecting the scanner, do a reboot with the scanner connected.

I have purchased a second hand mustek A3 usb scanner, it powers up but wont scan. I have downloaded the drivers from Mustek. When I click on the direct scan icon on my desktop it opens the programme but...


Hi,
When is tah last time you can scan with your scanner? You can always try to uninstall and reinstall the software of the scanner to fix the problem with scanning. and if there is an available update for teh software or firmware of teh device try to do so. ok?.

I've had a similar problem with the streaks, lines and color bleeds appearing in the scan. Try uninstalling the all software and drivers for the scanner and reinstall. Worked for me. Have had to do this a couple of times since I've owned the scanner... about three to four years now.

My Mustek A3 Scanner Compltetely Freezes Itself and Photoshop


I'm having the same problem with my Mustek A3 and I didn't have this problem at all until I installed the newest version of McAfee virus protection...ever since I installed that stupid program, every time I go to scan something with the Mustek scanner through Photoshop, now it freezes on me at the initializing scanner screen. I even tried the system restore to reset everything before the McAfee was installed and miraculously the scanner works perfectly again. So whatever McAfee has on that disk is screwing up my scanner which is really irritating. And yeah, I tried downloading the new drivers from the Mustek site before I did the system restore and that didn't help at all either.
