Question about Sony KP-65WV700 65" Rear Projection HDTV

2 Answers

Convergence Issues I'm Having convergence issues with my sony rear projection TV! It's a sony KP-65WV700. When I turned on the TV I heard a Cracking noise and when the picture came on the blue red and green colors were un-converged! I tried Flash Focus and it got worse! I tried adjusting the convergence manually, but it didn't work either. Also, The picture is arched at the top and the bottom of the screen. I'm Thinking it's the Convergence output driver IC's on The D board, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking I can change the IC's or the complete D board. Can you please help me with this? Email: Best regards, Armond.

OK The Serial # is 9008716. The TV Model # is KP-65WV700. Manufactured in may of 2003. Can you provide me with both Complete D Board part Number and The Convergence IC part numbers, please? Also, where can I get good ICs from?

I know sony has the D Board, and It's $161.86. The link is:

I also found another supplier with the price of $371.86.

This price includes a refundable core charge of $210.00. If you return the faulty part within 60 days you will receive a $210.00 credit. The link to this one is:

Another question is someone told me that on top of changing the ICs I have to Check and change any burnt Pico Fuses (the yellow fuses located under the ICs and The Heat Sync) Is that necessary?

    I have D board part # A1300883A.

I have the Two IC's and both have the same part # STK392-560, but There is another number on the top right corner of the IC those are different. One has A2K11 printed on it, the other one has B2K13 printed on it. What do these two sets of numbers and letters mean?

Can you please verify this info and let me know what to do?

Hi, I have KP-65WV600 & the same problem (built April 03). Issue is I have fixed several Projection TV's and found faulty STK's, but when I took the two STK392-560's apart, I did not find any faults or burned wires in them like I found in the other sets. Since all three colors where off, and chances for both STK to go bad at the same time were low, it may have been caused by other parts.

I suspect it was either the G Board or AD Board, but can't find any faults with them so far with just my multimeter.

I blame the Super Bowl for this ;-( There were some 3D commercials, and afterward the broadcast appeared in "3D" until a few minutes later. It worked fine since them, until now a couple of weeks after Super Bowl.

I will try a couple higher wattage STK392-570's (~$20 @ or MCMelectronics) anyway, and see what happens.

As for the pico fueses, should we get the fast blow or the slow ones Sony had? The fast ones are so much cheaper for some reason...

If anyone was able to get this fixed, please let me know!!!

If you have good soldering skills then can replace convergence ICs easily and I can provide you part numbers info.

If you think that D board replacement is better choice then let me know serial number of KP-65WV700 to provide you D board part number.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
convergence Issues - 701cb04.jpg
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Solution #1

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

  • Pico fuses will be replaced if they found blown / open in checking with Multimeter. Pico fuse part number is as follows:
1-533-595-31 IC LINK 3.15A 90V
  • Also need to check any burnt or faded-color 1 or 2 watt resistors on D board.
  • STK392-560 part is correct and it has been marked on PCB as IC8001 and IC8002 and Sony part number of IC is 8-749-019-08
Available in Part Store for $38
  • Small letters on STK392-560 are batch numbers of production and factory concerns.

  • A-1300-883-A is correct part number of D Board of KP-57WV700
Part Store offers few other B boards as compatible with price difference.

Need further info, let me know to guide you more.

I have just replaced the rear projection bulb in my sony kdf50e2010 and when i turned the tv back on i have a 2 inch red line at the top of the picture. what can i do to resolve this

First thing to try is - do a "Convergence"

Your TV owners manual will tell you how to do this, but here's a video and instructions:

How-to video:
how-to instructions:

cost to you: $zero

If a "convergence" doesn't resolve the problem, repost your problem, including the information
that the problem wasn't resolved by doing a "Convergance" procedure.

Blue Screen

You have a bad blue picture tube. If you replace it the red and green will be weak and probably go sooner than you think. Everytime I had to replace a tube in a sony projo tv i had to replace all 3 picture tubes at the same time. It's very expensive if you don't have any type of warranty coverage.
