A glass type bowl was broken in the sink.

Is it okay to use the disposal if the shards from the bowl are still in the disposal? If not, what can we do about this?

Yes. The shards wil just be broken up and pass through;  If it jams use a stick or metal rod to unjam it, in the off position,od course..

Water drains back into dishwasher from sink or disposal

You've got a broken piece of glass or something holding the drain valve open.
Solenoid operates the valve to drain water from dishwasher into drain line.
When power shuts off to solenoid...valve closes.
If valve is blocked by a piece of glass or toothpick or a sliver of bone...it can't close and draining water from disposal or sink can back flow into dishwasher.

I had a piece of glass caught in mine.

Hope this helps...

Smells when door is opened

Hi, this is most likely due to food waste stuck in the drain or the drain tube connected to the disposal. Remove bottom rack of dishwasher, then clear any debris from the drain located normally in the center. Be careful, many times I find broken glass in the drain. Next you want to check the drain line. Under the sink there is a flexible drain tube attached the the disposal or main drain stack for the kitchen sink. That is the drain for the dishwasher. Food and other things get stuck along the way and do not make it to the main drain and start stinking. Clean or replace the dishwasher drain tube.

I believe this uses a standard 3 1/2 inch diameter basket strainer. That is also the right size for the disposal. Thank you

How do I know that my disposal is actually working? It sounds right but I just had a clog after the displosal and it looked like good size pieces of food were passed right thru the disosal. Is the top...

The top grinder is supposed to spin around freely.

When something gets stuck:
Turn off switch.
Stick a wood broom handle down into disposal.
Wedge broom handle against sink opening and push grinder disk until it spins freely.

If you get stuff in the disposal like broken glass:
Stick vacuum hose in and remove the glass or bones, or whatever.
Most disposals will chew up chicken bones.
But heavier bones will not go down without considerable racket.

Smeg dishwasher Beeps when trying to drain...seems to wash ok but

Check your air gap at the sink for internal obstructions (take it aoart and clean it) Also check the dishwasher drain outlet into the garbage disposal (if you have one) They tend to clog up inside the garbage disposal. You may have to pull the hose off that connects to the garbage disposal to clean the hole out.

Water does not recirculate, takes water in and heats it up okay

there may be a shard of broken glass stuck in the wash pump, this is very common. or it may be the capacitor that has worn out. try gaining access to the wash pump and with a slotted screw driver, turn the shaft at the back of the motor, if it turns freely, with EXTREME CAUTION, start the machine up and when the motor should be running, turn the shaft with the flat screw driver and if it runs as normal, replace the capacitor, that will solve your problem. If on the other hand the motor is jammed when you initialy turned the shat, there will be glass or something similar stuck in it. hope this has been beneficial to you.

FPB-5PC How to remove blade

I would suggest wearing heavy gloves and removing all glass shards from your work area. If the shards have completely separated from the belnder collar, then you are done. If not, carefully unscrew the lid from the collar. If it won't budge, submerge the collar and blender jar parts in a very large bowl with vinegar - after 20-30 minutes, try unscrewing again (don't forget those gloves). As expensive as ther eplacement blender jar is, you could just reorder the other parts if this does not resovle the issue.
