Problem for Gateway (3RE4B13503870C) Sound Card

Gateway laptop internal speakers do not work.

My speakers were working fine one moment, and then they would not work. I can plug my headphones into the laptop and the sound works great. I have checked all the setting and made sure nothing was on mute. I also have restarted the laptop 3 times with no help, and I also have pluged and unpluged the headphone several times. What can I do?

Unplug your headphones if you have not already.

Open device manager. You can do this by right clicking on your "My Computer" icon on your desktop and then selecting properties at the bottom of the menu that comes up, or by going to Start>Settings>Control Panel, and then opening the "System" icon.

Once the system properties tab is open, left click on the hardware tab. Now left click the Device Manager button.

On the device manager window, look for an entry that says "Sound, video and game controllers". Left click the + box directly to the left of this line. It will open up any devices you have in this category. Within this list, your sound card device should be listed. It may say something like "SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio" or something similar.

Right click this device and left click uninstall. It will prompt you if you are sure you want to do this, tell it yes/ok and the driver will be uninstalled at this point, leaving ou with the device manager open still but without your sound driver listed.

Now, close all of your open windows saving any work you may have open, and reboot the PC. Upon reboot, the system will automatically reinstall your sound card driver. It may prompt you if you want to do this, just tell it yes/ok as you need to, to continue installing this driver.

Once this is complete, your sound should be working normally again.
