Sony KP-65WS510 Convergence Problem

My Sony TV picture looks like 3-d and bows at the top and bottom screen. After reading some of the post with similar problem, I ordered NEW STK392-560 and replced both of them. But the picture still looks the same. Is there anything else I can do or maybe check on the board? all the colours are bleeding and picture is awful, how do you fix this

I have a convergence problen in my KP-65WS510 and would like to get the part numbers or a manual to get the parts to repair it.

I had this happen last year. The tech came out and I "Think" he said it was a bad red reciffier. He said the the heat sink will be cold if it's bad.

He replaced it and all was good until almost a year until today, now it's doing it again. This time NOT in warranty !!

You have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.
Screen looks 3D
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed in but stationary.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

>>>Solution<<<<

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors.

Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kit for your exact model. The kit includes a photo instruction guide, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, etc. Everything you need to fix it yourself.

I tested all six pico fuses (3.5 A) and all tested fine on the continuity test. Is there something else I could check?

Hi,
This problem appears due to convergence output ICs failure located on D board in tv. There are two big black ICs that need to be replaced, soldering work is required.
Let me know are you handy with electronics stuff repair and can replace parts in circuit board to provide you more technical info OR local tv repairman will do this job for you.

I have a sony kp-41t65 tv acting like computer screen out of whac

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

I found throwing it out in the yard and running it over with my skid steer and then driving to Best Buy for a new one fixed the problem.

Are the convergence controls also out of adjustment? Please respond to this same post and I will help you. If you could post a picture of what the screen looks like that would even be better.

Picture Distortion

you have a convergence problem.. If you understand how this works then you can go into the set find the convergence ic's and replace them and sometimes you need to do some alighnment as well. Its always best though to let a service tech do a job like this as he will have all the proper equipment to adjust and troubleshoot the set Good luck
