Any one know how to back up the system to usb flash drive. Customer support indicated to just use a flash drive and hit the back up button. The screens indicate that it should be working but nothing actually saves to the flash drive. Using 1gb flash drive in the USB port in the front.

either way>, you may have to clear the entire data and load the current firmware: If you are adventurous enough to refresh the system and make it like new; do the following:
Open the case and remove the cover. Lift the HD Module strait up from the right center located on the mainboard. Replace it with an SK200 Module (slips easily in the slot) to start New.
If you are Satisfied with the way it operates as is; then you may Just Load New Firmware that usually clears out the old data and updates all functions to the current specs. To just do a Firmware update; Download, extract and Copy the FreeSat 800HD_HD4 Bin to a USB flash drive. Insert the Flash Drive in the front or back USB port. Click Menu and scroll left to Info/Upgrade screen. Choose the correct BIN and click OK. Now wait until Firmware upgrades and for receiver to reboot on its own.
The only other method is to remove any power cells that maintain memory for the system board when it is off or shut down. Take any button batteries out if one exists on your model, turn on the unit and then off, replace the cell and start up again. Other than that; getting an original manual with repair instructions is your final choice. Good luck!
From my experience, this isn't possible due to copyright reasons. If your DVR has a USB port, it is usually meant for flashing the BIOS with updates by a technician. Since this is a rented DVR from DirecTV, they probably have the USB port disabled since they can update the DVR from their end. All you can do is search Google using your model number since we would be liable for guiding you how to "hack" into DirecTV's property.
