Question about Radio Communications
I have a RCI 2970 and it will squeel until you unplug and then plug the external speaker back in... I key it up and then it will last about 15seconds and then it wont squeel again until i key up again... what could be doing this... I have tried different speakers and different grounds but nothing will work.. It seems like when it warms up it doesnt do it as often
Strange! I used to run almost the same kinda setup but with a super scanner omnibeam, i modded mine myself. At 1 time i had a squeal problem it was in the mic if i remember correctlly i ran a external wire from the screw on the spring inside the mic where the cord comes out to the radio chassis and it stopped it give it a try. I used a simple speaker wire, also you might want to try grounding the radio to the power supply. Sounds like a ground problem! I have a awsome mod for that radio that would enable you to run a regular amp with it and also would enable you to talk local without engaging the amp in the radio using only 4 watts! Let me know how it works out for you with the squeal? if intrested in that mod contact via email at (firstname.lastname@example.org). put 2970 in the subject line. Take care.

your problem & smell is due to horizontal section failure.
in that section

for skilled technician it is not a major problem &easy to fix at fair cost.
