Our Kenmore Coldspot has an awful odor whenever you open the door
We have clean and scrubbed the inside of the refrigerator and freezer and there is still an awful odor. It is a spoiled smell that you can only smell when you open up the doors. We have taken the tray out from underneath and cleaned that. We pulled it out and cleaned behind it and under it. Still the smell. Help!!

Use straight bleach on it. sponge down the whole inside with bleach and if you can leave the doors open on it to let it breathe and clear the odor out. bleach kills most smells if left on for awhile.go over it a couple of times if you have to to get rid of the smell.

Best way to safeguard against freezer burn is to properly wrap whatever you throw in the freezer. Common hassle with self defrosting design since the air is always being blown around in freezer compartment. If you do that you will also cut down the possibility of the ice picking up unwanted odors.
You have a freon leak. With this only being 5 years old, iot's probably worth repairing, unless you are just able to buy a new one. I would have a local tech come out and check it before tossing it. I hope this answers your question and gives you some resolution. I hope to work with you again, so please record our name, email and phone number for future needs. Have a great evening!
Good to see you put your model number down correctly. Do the lights come on inside when you open door? I noticed your refrigerator has a control board inside the fresh food section behind the control panel I want you to unplug the refrigerator and examine that board for burn marks or loose solder connections on both Sides. Then let me know what you find. Thanks, Sea breeze

Behind you crisper drawers is an opening to the freezer compartment for air return from the refrigerator. If it is blocked it can cause the problem you posted. The temperature of the refrigerator section controls the running of the system.
look for a door/light switch, and depress it do the lights go out?? bad switch will keep the lights on and melt plastic lens covers.. could also be nothing and you happened to open open the door right as a defrost cycle was completing( there is a heating elemnt in your freezer) watch your dairy, ice cream nad milk are real good indicators of refrigeration issues. as far as runnig all the time no real" time limit" as to how long it should be running.
