Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

My Dell Dimensions Desktop is only 1 year and 1 month old. I tried to turn it on and the screen comes up and says 1.analog 2. analog placing in safe mode. At first I thought someone accidently put it in sleep mode and it wouldn't wake up. But, now I am having such problems with it. At this point I am using an old computer to get on line. I am running Windows Vista in the new one and have NEVER had a virus...please help me. Some "kid" at Circuit City said it was my mother board..just looking for an easy fix

Your video drive is not installed or is corupted. try bootimg in VGA Mode by pressing F8 When the computer boots or get an old monitor and connect it to your computer and install the Video driver. To download the drive go to dell .com and click dowload drivers and find your computer and dounload the video driver and install it then put your regular monitor back.

Message on monitor says " no analog signal".

If you are getting no post display on boot up (dell spash screen, and windows loading screen):

First step is to plug a different monitor into the computer. If this works you most likely have a bad monitor. If not then it is a hardware issue with the video card on the computer.

If you getting the post screen then you may have your resolution set to high, boot in safe mode (F8 on the key board right after the post screen) and chose safe mode. once windows comes up, right click the back ground and chose a lower resolution setting.

Hope this helps

My Dell deskop when turned on only goes to the Dell slash screen then the screen goes black. Will not go to the windows screen.

Try these options:

1. Reseat your hard drive - unplug the ide cable from the motherboard and plug it again
2. Reseat the memory - remove and put it back again
3. Try to go to safe mode - while starting, press the F8 key to see the options
4. On the otherhand, you can select boot from the cd and use your Dell Diagnostic Utility and run hardware tests and see whats wrong..

Windows xp screen appears on Dell dimension 3000 desktop. It tries to boot up but then the screen goes black and just sits there. How do I fix this? I need to just get my data files off.

When you first turn on your computer, start pressing the F8 key about once every 1/2 second until you get to the boot menu. From there, select "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking" (if you want to transfer files via network connection). The rest should be pretty self explanatory.

When i turn my dimension 8200 on it will not boot i keep getting the black screen with the safe mode option but no matter option i choose it aslways comes back to the black screen

if you have the windows xp disk, boot from it by pressing F12 upon turning on your computer. press 'R' to choose recovery console. you might be asked which windows installation you want to start, just press 1. when you see the console, enter the command 'fixboot' without the quotes. then type exit to restart your computer. hope it helps.

Dell Vostro 200 won't boot

From your description you have corrupted the boot files of the machine

Try hitting F8 repeatedly when you power the machine up that should put you into safe mode

If you can get there go for a system restore

If that fails there is a program called ERD Commander which was written by a company called Winternals but is now under Mocrosofts control.

That replaces the normal OS and allows you to do repairs

Make sure that the OS disk you are using is a bootable version not just a collection of files

Goes On ..Then Goes Black Screen I have 2 GX280s. One failed the other day after 2 years use. The BIOS screen appeared then it all went black. About every 10th attempt to get it going, it works and boots...

have you tried booting in safe mode? When it starts press F8 and select "Safe Mode" or "Last Known Good Configuration.". On that 10th try you do get it to come up make sure you install all updates for your computer. Then you can put int he Optiplex disk from Dell and run some diagnostics.

Desktop screen won't stay on

how old is your screen, if its older than 2-3 years mostly its gone and you need to replace it. If its in warranty then contact dell customer support. Life of screen can be around 3 years after that i may not work.
Another test is to connect it to some other computer and see if its working, then we can focus on some output issue from the CPU.
