Thank you for your service! And thanks for the effort to produce a newsletter.

I haven't used Pagemaker for a while, but let's give it a try. On the menu bar at the top of the PM Window you should see File, Exit and so on. Look for View or Options. Check each of the drop down menus to see if there is a STATUS BAR option. That's what the bottom bar is normally called. It may be as easy as checking it so tht it shows. You may need to look through the menus for another 'options' sub menu to find it. The Adobe search wasn't very helpful on this topic.

Please let me know what you find.

Motherboard power wiring

The eMachines W3653 (a?) uses an ECS 945GCT-M3 motherboard,

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=719&MenuID=1&LanID=0

(Photo is J-U-N-K. Go to More pictures, and click on it.
{More pictures / Where to buy / Print}

Click on Download.
(Features / Specification / Download / Support / CPU / etc)

Click on MANUAL
(Driver / BIOS / MANUAL)

To the right of Download, click on the country NAME nearest yours.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.

After you click on the country name, it may take up to 30 seconds, before the first page comes up. Took 5 seconds just now for me, using a medium speed DSL connection.

Hover your mouse cursor towards the Bottom/Middle.
The ghosted out navigation guide will appear.
Go to the far Right, and click on the Adobe Reader Toolbar icon.

(If you hover your mouse cursor over it, Show Adobe Reader toolbar, will briefly appear)

The Zoom Out icon at the top ( - ) decreases the view size.
The Zoom In icon at the top ( + ) increases the view size.

The Adobe Reader page number box is at the Top, and to the right of the Down Arrow.
The Adobe Reader page numbers, and the actual manual page numbers; do NOT match each other.
When I refer to a page it is for the Adobe Reader page number box.

You can use the Down Arrow to go page by page, to arrive at the page you want; or you can do this;

1) Left-click IN the Adobe Reader page number box.
Everything inside the box will be highlighted in Blue.

2) Type the page number you want.
3) Press the Enter key.

Go to Page 11. Increase the view size.
This is the Motherboard Layout.
Number 12 points to the Front Panel header.
(PANEL1)

[The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires from the Front Panel go to, is the Front Panel header.

What you are asking for is the Front panel header pinout ]

Motherboard installed in computer; the Processor is to the Top, Ram Memory slots to the Right, white long PCI slots (2) to the Bottom;

The Front Panel header is at the BOTTOM/RIGHT corner.
Two rows of contact pins.
It is IN a long black rectangular strip, that also contains OTHER contact pins.

Starting on the LEFT side of this long black header, going towards the Right; you want the LAST 4 pins on the Top row. (There are 4 pins, then NO pin)
You want the LAST 5 pins on the Bottom row.

The Front Panel header pinout is on Page 33.
The Top row of pins are numbered EVEN.
The Bottom row of pins are numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right, Top row;
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8. There is NO pin 10.

Starting on the Left side going towards the Right, Bottom row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
(LED = Light Emitting Diode)

Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

B) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

C) Pin 9 is N/C.
Not Connected.
It is probably a 5 Volt test point for the factory to use.

D) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED. (Light)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

E) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

F) There is NO pin 10.

How do i hook up usb button in intel 845 motherboard

Well, that's a start. You know you have an Intel motherboard in your eMachines, that uses an Intel 845 motherboard chipset.

It is an Intel D845GVSR motherboard.

http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d845gvsr/sb/cs-008823.htm

Left-click on the blue -
Intel Desktop Board D845GVSR Product Guide (PDF)

This is a PDF file. The computer you are using now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
(I would advise upgrading to Adobe Reader X { 10 }, however, if you don't have it )

After you click on the above link, it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up. (Took 6 seconds just now. Adobe Reader X, and medium speed DSL connection)

At the top of the PDF file, is the PDF file page number box.
It is to the left of the Down Arrow.
Go to Page 11.
T is the Front Panel USB header.

This is where the USB ports on the front of the computer, (Front Panel) connect to.

Go to Page 31.
E is the Front Panel USB header.
The Front Panel USB header is J9F2.

Observe the numbers next to the pins.
Go to Page 33.
This is the pinout for the Front Panel USB header, using those contact pin numbers.

1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 = one USB port
2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 = one USB port

Notice pins 9 and 10 are not used.

You can connect two USB ports to this header.

The pinout of ANY USB connector, female, or male, is set to a Standard.

This is the standard pinout for USB connectors,

http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml

In case you cannot download the Intel D845GVSR motherboard manual;

Looking at the motherboard in it's normal position, installed into the computer case, the USB header is on the Bottom edge of the motherboard.

It is to the immediate Right, of the bottom white PCI slot (PCI 3)
It is to the Left of the motherboard mounting hole.
It is Below the Intel 82801DB, Southbridge chip.

Two rows of pins.
5 across the Top row, 4 across the Bottom row.

STARTING on the Left side, (Towards the white PCI slot), and going towards the Right, the pins on Top are numbered,
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10

STARTING on the Left side, (Towards the white PCI slot), and going towards the Right, the pins on Bottom are numbered,
Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7

Pins 1, 3, 5, and 7 = One USB connection
Pins 2, 4, 6, and 8 = One USB connection

Pin 9, and Pin 10 are Not used. (N/C. No Connection)

A) Pin 1 is for Power

B) Pin 3 is for D-
The Data, or Signal wire. It is the Negative connection

C) Pin 5 is for D+
The other Data, or Signal wire. It is the Positive connection

D) Pin 7 is for Ground

Going to the other USB header;
A) Pin 2 is for Power

B) Pin 4 is for D-

C) Pin 6 is for D+

D) Pin 8 is for Ground

I want to download pagemaker 5.5

5.5 is a very old version of pagemaker, as pagemaker is not free or shareware you will not be able to download this without purchasing it first, as it is so old most shops will not stock it, i recommend you contact adobe and ask them for advice on getting it but expect them to charge you for the latest version.

I did a 4 page newsletter and saved it. Now when I open the newsletter just one page comes up with no place to turn the page and no way to enlarge the page.

Yes you are right that the software is not doing its best.Its a failure from Printmaster Platinum 18, check out if it is under trial period, then upgrade.
Or it might be the case with Printmaster not compatible with Vista. Otherwise use a different software.

Please vote the solution.

I have a new computer. On my old computer is Adobe Pagemaker 6.5 Plus with a lot of important files. I want them on my new computer. What is the best way to do that? Thanks.

First of all you need to do a back up of your files. Take a look which documents done by adobe you want to keep and copy them to a CD.

Then you have to install the adobe on the new machine.
After that simply copy to the same folder (that you had it before) the files from your cd.
That's it.

PS: To see where are located your adobe files, simply open the adobe program and select one file and take a look which is the path on the adress bar.
