Question about Asko Washing Machines

Motor not running in Asko 10504 washing machine

Checked belt - ok. Checked brushes - making good contact, plenty left. Checked main connector to motor and brush connectors - all ok.
Runs through cycle normally apart from no motor movement - fills and empties ok.

Thanks for your reply. I have already fixed it, but you were right. It turned out to be a bad solder joint on the main control board - at the connector leading to the motor. I re-soldered the joint and it worked ok.

The motor might have burned out. Another possibility would be a partially fried control board.

I compare it to a gas motor with a miss.

Could be your carbon brushes. Really easy job to check. The brushes are located inside the motor housing and are covered by 2 or 4 black caps depending on your scooter model. You simply undo the caps and remove the Brush. Check that there is plenty of carbon material left and that the spring and contact are in good condition and that the Brush slides freely through the housing. Sometimes a sticking brush or bad contact can cause power fluctuations..... Let me know how you get on.

Tip

Washing machine motor issues with brushes and carbon dust read this if your...

due to carbon dust build up around the drum motor in most washers that have non linear motor that have carbon brushes
you can get a state of error i call a ghost error
as its just due to the build up of carbon powder around the motor its connector and stator coils {speed pickup}
as the brushes deplete you end up with a pile of it building up between the brush contact and the motor housing leading to electricity leaking to earth of the motor metals

so a stiff dry new paint brush and give the motor a good brush around to remove the conduction path the dust creates

this effects the low voltage sensors in the motor like its speed control etc
leading to the mcu controller board miss diag the motor as bad and you get a E or F motor error
also this can and will trip your homes MCB detector and ECLD mains power switch

as i say its a ghost error and easily solved

any engineer worth his salt when fitting new brushes or even looking at this fault
will do this first to try to clear the fault if the brushes are aok
before he condems the controller board ... as bad

a new set of brushes should be part of a service you should carry out
much like an mot when its outside its warrenty period

and brushing out the old dust
should be done anyway when new brushes are fitted when needed
or there condition checked as still ok

basically brushes should be about at least 3/4 " long for a life left of about a year
and have enough preasure on the armature to ensure good current flow too it via the stator
if you have motor F or E fault conditions or a machine that trips your mains on spin etc
this prob needs done anyway
a set of brushes it cheep and a brush is also cheep

so give it a good brush out
then reset the machine
you power off at the mains
you hold in a button or two
you power on at the mains
ive read some machine need the program switch to be placed and then dialed like a safe to reset the main board from some types of motor fault
caused by carbon dust build up typical candy auto washers.. and others
they make it hard to make people money

Could be a few different things. Have you checked the motor brushes? Check they have plenty carbon left on them and that the spring is in good condition. Make sure they slide through the Brush Housing smoothly. Sometimes a sticking brush or bad contact can cause intermittent power loss.

Blower motor works when i hit a bump, whats wrong

Blower motor faulty, or faulty blower motor switch. 90% sure its a blower motor that has bad brushes. Brushes are what sends voltage from the wires to the shaft, which creates a magnetic field that will make the shaft want to turn. The brushes are in constant contact with the contacts on the blower shaft. Over time, being in constant contact with a moving part, the brushes will wear down untill there is nothing left but the springs that hold them in place. The springs don't contact the shaft fully, but can run the motor once its givin a kickstart. A bump is doing just that, giving your blower motor a kickstart to run. A loose connector will do this but its very uncommon for a connector to just come loose on its own. A loose connector will intermittenly connect when jostled, bumped, or wiggled.

It makes a noise as if its spinning but the drum doesnt go round

Hi,iI have just had the same fault, and as described elsewhere, the solution was to replace the motor brushes. I would say this took 1/2 - 3/4 hour to remove brushes and same to replace.
How:
1.DISCONNECTED ELECTRICITY SUPPLY
2. Disconnected water
3. Removed the 1 screw from back panel, removed panel to get access to remove belt.
4. Lay washer on it's side (2 people recommended)
5. From underneath machine, unscrewed 2 bolts on the motor (back of the machine)
6. Holding the motor so it did not fall and get damaged, carefully tapped end of motor to unmount it from holding pegs (slides towards back of machine)
7. Noted how the plastic cover fixed to motor, then snipped tie wrap holding it to motor.
8. Unplugged connector and earth connector.
9. Carefully removed connector on each brush.
10. AS THE BRUSH WAS SLOWLY WITHDRAWN, checked the orientation of the bevelled edge of the brush relative to the motor so the new one was fitted correctly (the end of the brush is angled so it sits flat against the motors commutator)
11. Replaced brushes and refitted in reverse order.

Take care

Treadmill (Vision Fitness T8500) turns on, motor doesn't run...

open motor shroud and inspect all connection on the motor control board see if all LED 's are lit except that light up when incline motor is moving up or down. then check the two connector coming from the drive motor to the board sometime over time the two connector will have a cold soldier I would move them to see any excessive movements of the pins then hit start and see if there is any belt movement. Last but not least unplug unit and check the motor brushes if they are less than 3/8 in in length replace them. Call them @ 1-800-335-4348 they under their parent corp. Johnson fitness.

Drum not turning

Hi,
Would request you to please do the following steps to get the drum spinning again.
Switch off power, disconnect hoses, open pump housing to completely empty machine of water.
Turn the machine upside down onto a soft surface - e.g. a blanket on the floor, and carefully cut the cable tie holding the motor cable and splashguard to the motor body; disconnect the motor connector and earth spade to facilitate easy access to the more visible brush block. The brush spades disconnect easily, then the brushes are extracted by sliding each spade terminal inwards toward the motor spindle until the connector end is released from the block, then pull the other way to release the inward end - withdraw the spring/brush assemblies gently from the carriers. The brushes are clearly on either side of the motor spindle but see how they do not fit on a diameter of the motor axle but are inserted tangentially - the curve on the brush is polarised to take this into account - you want to have the wider carbon contact surface of the two fitting options possible. Reassembly is simple but make sure you do not reconnect the mains supply if any water has been spilled into the top of the machine... leave it for a day or so to dry out You can test the motor using the spin cycle before re-installing the machine properly.

Drum Does not Rotate

the carbon dust that you mention ? on the drivebelt will//may have come from the electric motor carbon brushes especially as you sy machine is 4 yrs old you can diy inspect the brushes by removing the rear panel to access motor unplug the socket from motor then slacken belt and remove belt from pully remove the motor you will see location f brushes x2 opposit each other and normally held in position ont armature of motor by coiled pressure clip like watch spring and brush has wire embedded in it and other end a push on terminal? when these brushes wear down normally the fist indication is fast spin slows then eventually no rotation of drum? over a period of time? SO easy diy to renew brushes if as above worne down /not contacting armature? cost approx £5 here in n/west uk worth investigating and diy saving ££££s $$$$s? and i hope you have good luck hope this helps/inspires you?
