Question about Teac AG-V1050 Receiver

Will not drop 45's

I have a 70's Magnavox Console Stereo that plays 78's great. The records will drop and the arm goes to the right place. However, the 45's are not dropping. The spindle is in the correct position. The little thingie will go in on the spindle so the record should drop. When this happens, the turn table slows down almost to a stop.

Anyone got any suggestions

I think the spindle is broke or stuck in some way! if you have another one try that! and if you dont you may be able to use those little plastic adapter thingys and place them on the 45s and try that !
It sounds to me like the spindle is sticking and is pulling the turntable belt and slowing it down!
I would look for a new/used spindle
I think this will fix ya!

It might just need a new belt or a few drops of oil on the motor bearing.
You will have to open it up and check whether the belt has perished, or stretched.

I'm no expert, but based on the general idea of operation for a turntable, it sounds like the arm is getting bound up or being hindered in some way. If you pick the arm up and swing it back and forth manually, can you feel a place in the movement that seems to have some degree of resistance? You would want to move the arm very slowly and feel for even the slightest amount of resistance. It doesn't take much force to hold the arm from advancing. An ill positioned wire in the base of the arm could be the culprit or if the unit has an automated return home mechanism, there could be a problem there as well. Maybe working the arm back and forth manually several times to its fullest allowable extension, will help to eliminate the impediment. Do this caringly and without excessive force. I hope this helps.

Playing to the end of the record

I LOVED the 40bs, and if you look at the size selector, which is located at an angle to the right side at the front along with the manual or auto setting in the front. There are 4 settings, 78-10, 45-7, 33-12, and 33-7 for the speeds and sizes of the recordings.

Are the record size tabs sticking up through the turntable platter cover? They sense the size of the record being played and adjust the run out distance for either 45 or 33 rpm records.

70's Magnavox Console Stereo

Pull the Tuner unit out. Get some "DE-OXIT" D-5 @ Guitar center. With the power OFF and the plug pulled out from the wall, spray the De-Oxit into all the pots', and switch contacts. Rotate all the pots 50 or more times, then cycle each switch the same.

This will clean most all of the oxidation that has accumulated on the switch and pot wipers and ensure a clean contact. This may or may not rectify your problem but WILL Eliminate dirty contacts from the troubleshooting list. Also with the unit being OVER 40 years old, the capacitors will more than likely (>90%) be dried out and causing drop outs, opens and shorts in the circuits.

Hope this helps
