Question about KitchenAid Dishwashers

Door light won't go off

The door open light won't go off even when the door is closed. This makes the dishwasher unable to operate. I have double and tripled checked there is nothing blocking the door.

What or where is the plunger?

  • weebal Jan 18, 2009

This model is KitchenAid Sculptra Model KUDV24SE. Where the door closes there is a metal "u" shaped piece that fits into a plastic clip in the door itself. I have tried adjusting this, no luck. The plastic piece in the door itself does not move and looks like there is a small ramp like fixture for the u clamp to fit over. It is hard to explain. Sorry.

  • weebal Jan 20, 2009

I don't think it is magnetic, but there is the metal u shaped thing and plastic that it feeds into in the door itself. When you say "top of the dryer" do you mean the body of dishwasher itself (which is under the counter top) or the door of the dishwasher. We were able to get off the front piece fairly easily and all wires are well connected. We even removed each one and replaced it tightly. There was not any water or dampness in the electrical area. (this is directly behind where you progam the wash cycles) There is not a plunger in the dishwasher. I saw one on the refrig and got what you were saying. But this dishwasher does not have one.

Have you tried to push the plunger in with a pen. If it is not a plunger, there may be a magnetic connection or latch. Try "tapping" on where it closes. This sounds like a loose connection or fitting. Make sure all is tight at the connections or latches. If you can pull off the cover or panel, you may be able to see a wire loose. The other thing to ask is-- has water gotten into the control panel? If you have all these and the things you have tried, call the helpless desk, I mean the help desk and they may can guide you through this problem. Good luck!

Plungers are used on the older models. When you close the door to the dishwasher, it pushes a short 1/2 inch long plastic piece into the frame. It then would complete the circuit, thus allowing the washer to operate. Plunger is merely a household name for that piece. It literally plunges into the shaft. It is springloaded to push out when you open the door, which then turns off the machine. You will find a similar switch on your refrigerator door.

I think I am familiar with this. This may still be the problem however. Are you able to remove the piece that fits behind the frame? This is the piece that is located right where the piece on the door meets. You may can access it from the top of the dryer. You can remove the top fairly easy on this model. You should find the wiring to it when you get the top off. Would the piece in the door be magnetic?

Dishwasher door will not close dishwasher come on with door open.

Good Morning Garthraie, thanks for your post!
I see that the door on your Frigidaire dishwasher appears to be locked and will not close. Could you please advise if the control panel has any lights lit up on it? Also, may I have the model number of your dishwasher? You can locate the serial tag (which lists your model number) on the inside left hand wall of your dishwasher. With this additional information I would be able to assist you further. -Matt

Bosch Logixx won't start - Stuck on "Close the door" even though door is closed.

Open the door, look along the top stainless on the door and you should find the ENr number (model number) etched into the stainless, may need to give it a wipe and look at an angle to read it. Post the ENr and that should help with diagnosis.

Door won't lock

If your dishwasher door won't lock, it could be a problem with the latch adjustment or the door seal. Some latches are designed to be adjustable, and yours may be set too tightly. Look at the owner's manual for specific instructions or follow these basic steps for adjusting the latch:

1. Spray WD-40 or other lubricant onto the latch.
2. Slowly open and close the door several times, noticing whether the door hits the strike plate (the metal plate on the top of the dishwasher frame). Use a hammer to lightly tap the strike plate to move it as needed.
3. If possible, adjust the depth of your latch by unscrewing the latch assembly using a screwdriver and reseating it. Work with the adjustment until it latches correctly.
Note: If your latch is permanently fixed, have a qualified professional address the problem.

The door seal-also called a gasket-can also cause problems if you have a brand new dishwasher or door seal. The good news is that the door seal will mold to the door's shape over the first week or so. Operating your dishwasher with the highest level of heat will help this process happen more quickly. Because the material is pliable, and because heat will soften it, it will seal to the door more securely after those first few loads.

On the flip side, an old door seal can also keep your door from closing correctly. Check the seal for signs of warping or damage. If the seal needs replacing, arrange for service, or consider doing it yourself. In most models, it's a relatively easy DIY project. See Dishwasher gasket replacement for step-by-step instructions.

For more troubleshooting steps, see Dishwasher door repair. I hope this helps!

I start the dishwasher and it does nothing and lights do not turn on either

When your dishwasher won't start, it could be a problem with your electrical panel or the door might not be closing properly.

Check your household electrical panel for a tripped breaker or blown fuse. Also check to make sure the door latches closed properly.

For additional troubleshooting steps you can take and things you can do, read Dishwasher won't start for more suggestions. I hope this helps!

How to start kitchenaid dishwasher

1-confirm power make sure breaker is not tripped or fuse is good and no tripped GFI's (no power obviously it won't work) 2-confirm water is on (the timer has a delay that it powers down during it's wait for the unit to fill with water 3-make sure the door is fully closed and latched properly (the door has a safety interlock to prevent the dishwasher from operating while the door is open -- think water sprayed everywhere) 4- beyond this if it is a new install and has never worked call your installer back

My Maytag QuietSeries 400 dishwasher won't start. Sometimes 88 flashes on the display and that's all. What does that mean? Model # MDB7601AWB

Dishwasher will not start Is the door open or unlatched?
Make sure the door is completely closed and latched. On models with a dual-digit display, the control displays "- -" during a cycle if it believes the door is not latched. Check for obstructions (spoons, etc), interfering with the door operation. A lower dish rack that is installed backward will also cause incomplete door closure.

Check your household electrical box to see if a fuse has blown or if the circuit breaker has tripped. If the unit has a plug-in power cord, make sure it is plugged in.

Does your dishwasher have a rotary timer knob? (Some Models)
The cycle selection must match the position of the timer knob. Turn the timer knob to the beginning of the preferred cycle. The timer knob should click when you reach the start of the cycle.

Is the control lock option activated?
Press and hold the Heated Dry option (button with lock icon) for three to five seconds and the light should turn off. Instructions are also placed on the label on top of the inner door to unlock the controls.

Is the delay start option activated?
To cancel the delay and cycle, press Cancel/Drain.

Has the motor stopped for less than 10 minutes?
The motor may have stopped due to an overload. If this is the case, the motor will automatically reset itself within 5-10 minutes.

Is the Start/Resume indicator flashing?
Opening the door or interrupting the power can stop the cycle. Close the door and press Start/Resume. If the Start/Resume indicator flashes three times when you press Start/Resume, the dishwasher is waiting for you to open the door after the last cycle. Open and close the door, and then press Start/Resume.
On models where the controls are on top of the door be sure to close the door within 3 seconds of pressing the Start/Resume to start or resume the dishwasher cycle.

Is the water shutoff valve (if installed) turned on?
Make sure that the water shutoff valve is turned on.

Dishwasher won't run. Normal light and cancel light flashing cont

Hi,

The door latch pulls the door tightly closed to prevent water leakage around the door. It is also designed to prevent operation while the door is open. The door latch works in concert with the door switch to ensure that the door is tightly closed and latched. The door switch is a separate part from the door latch and is found inside the cabinet. The switch is off when the door is open. Depressing the switch closes the circuit and enables dishwasher operation. Closing the door does not depress the switch all the way. Only when the door is closed and latched, does the door fully depress the switch.

If the door latch is not properly aligned it may not pull the door tightly closed and the door switch will not be fully depressed. Unless the switch is fully depressed the dishwasher will not operate. It is a simple matter to determine whether the door latch is the problem. Simply open the door, close the latch and select a cycle and depress the switch. Note that if the test is successful, with the door open, the dishwasher will operate and water may spray out. Make sure to first remove all tools from inside the dishwasher. Do not reach inside the dishwasher during the test. Now, inspect the cabinet where the door makes contact with it and locate the door switch. It may have a protruding button or spike or more likely it is a hole with a piece of metal or plastic inside it. You must fully depress that switch. If the switch is recessed, then use a non-conductive object, such as a wooden pencil, to depress the switch.

Thank you !!
