Re: oreck 4080 the bag fell off the vacuum,
If the bag doesnt have a bag holder then the bags just push onto the black connector - there is usually a hook at the top of the oval connector where the bag once pushed on, sits over the oval dust channel feeder and locks into place. Once the Oreck is switched on, the bag in theory should stick to the oval hole.

The manual is available as a PDF here: http://www.oreck.com/Owners-Guides . Scroll down to the Canisters section and then select the link for the Compact Canister vacuum.
The replacement bag that you should use is: Oreck Replacement Treated Filter Bags (12 pk. with 1 Micro Filter) No. PKBB12DW which cost $14.99 for each package from Oreck. On the Oreck site, these are the Hand-Vac Bags. See: http://www.oreck.com/Hand-Vac-Bags to order them online.
This is a sign that the bag is full or there's a clog in the air flow piping. Check behind the brush for clogs and remove if there is. Open the cloth bag, remove the paper bag, and check inside the tube. If no blockage is visible, drop a coin or marble down the opening and see if it rolls out. If not, there's a clog that needs removed. You can use an air pressure hose to blow it out..
if you provide me with the model # which is located on the back of the brush head ill provide you with the part # for the metal clip that holds the outer cloth bag onto the bag fill tube. Check on the top of the black tube or inside the cloth bag and see if it fell off and didnt get lost before you get a new one.
Its clogged. It needs to have a thorough clean out and this can be done by removing the sole plate / floor head where the beater bar is and checking to see that all the air ways or the dust channel that flows through t he main spine neck at the back is clear, checking the main spine at the back is clear and finally to check that there is no clogging at the top of the back spine as well. Oreck XL can become clogged quite quickly due to its relatively small suction tube openings and small motor.
The best solution to any Oreck vacuum problem is to replace it with another brand. You are going to continue having problems with the Oreck..Not that other brands don't have problems. But, at least with other brands the problems don't occur as often. Belt burning up. clogs, roller brush bristle wearing down prematurely, cord breaking internally, etc. P.S. Oreck is good at one thing. Marketing!
