The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

HI, AFTER A WINDOWS UPDATE IN MY COMPUTER I CAN'T SEE MY CD OR OPTICAL DRIVE ANYMORE? THANKS BOBBY

Answer:
Well, the timing is interesting. If you noticed the problems only after installing the updates, I'd remove the updates and see if that fixes things. To remove Windows updates, there are two ways to do this:
1) Add / Remove Programs: Use the Add / Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel to remove the updates. Open it, and make sure the "Show Updates" box is checked (it's located in the upper right of the tool). Scan through the list and see if you can find the updates you've mentioned below. Remove them if you see them. Reboot and see if you still have the problem. If you don't find the updates listed here, you'll have to use the second option below.
2) In your Windows XP Start Menu, go to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. The System Restore tool will start. Use that to restore your PC to a previous date - you should be able to select to restore to a time before those updates were installed. The tool will allow you to pick from certain times you can restore to. Pick the date and time that's just before you installed the updates. Click for more information on the System Restore tool.
If neither of these fix the issue or remove the updates, then the problem is not something I can easily troubleshoot over email. There may be anything from hardware problems to network problems to CPU and process problems. To continue the troubleshooting, you'd be best off showing your PC to a local computer geek.

I can not find the driver for this USB mass storage device

What is the device exactly as most USB flash / thumb drives dont actually need a driver from windows xp upward.

If it is some other device then make and model would be a great start.

If it is just a flash drive then it will appear as another drive in explorer once windows has installed the driver.

If NOT then you should start by doing any updates for you computer as a first off then ensure you have the latest motherboard INF packs installed too as I have seen flash drives fail when the hardware drivers for the motherboard are not installed

Have you tried removing the cables from the drive and refitting them.
If it still does it, you probably have a faulty eject mechanism.
A new drive is less then £15

My HP Pavilion ZE4900 (windows XP/32 bit) won't boot up past the startup screen. I do NOT have the recovery disk so how do I go on about fixing this problem. Full details to my problem is right here:...

I would suggest you to open up the CPU unit, clean the RAM (Memory) with nail polish remover or thinner.
Change the slot of the RAM.
Then Start the computer and boot up with the CD that u said is available on the other website.
I am sure the computer should boot up and once it is booted up just repair the Windows.
If you do not repair the Windows then it may create the problem when next time you start up.
Strange but some solutions are always on side ways... I am giving you this solution as i have solved this problem on my own computer.

Thanks
Jimmy
