Now that is an old machine. 1980 model. They were called endless ribbon and ink roller. I don't think you will find any Sharp dealer who can supply these now. If you want to keep using it, you will probably have to adapt one of the ink cartridges from the other models. If you need more information, C-tech still has all of the manuals for the ER-2782A here:http://the-checkout-tech.com/manuals/cashregisters/Sharp3.php
Sharp A330 has no ribbons but it has ink roller. Slide the the printer compartment and you will see a pink roller beneath. Press the handle down to remove the old roller. Insert the new one using the reverse of you removed it.
Same problem on my Omron HEM-711. Manufactured in 2003, past the 5-yr warranty. Cust Suppt told me to replace unit. I opened the unit up and looked inside. Two very tight phillips screws, one on back panel, other in battery compartment. Case pries apart. LCD display looked intact, ribbon was undamaged. Unit appeared to work properly, just did not display correct reading, some of the liquid crystals in a few of the digits were not activating. I installed batteries with case still open, turned power on while pressing ribbon along edge of circuit board. Ribbon is manufactured with glue to circuit board, some of the leads come loose after several years due to manufacturing defect. In my case, pressing towards the bottom side corrected problem. You can see when it's working properly because all the display crystals light up simultaneously when unit is first powered up. I clamped down ribbon with two small paper clips insulated with a few bits of paper, works fine now, saved eighty bucks.
You may have to replace the lamp unit...but ... I would first make sure all connectors have been re-seated. Remove the main glass and make sure all ribbon/wire connectors are unplugged and re-inserted. (make sure copier is off). You could also remove the back cover of the copier and unplug/replug all connectors just to be sure. You never know !
try a reset. unplug for 10 mins, plug it back, see if it will work.
if not , open the housing, see a ribbon cable from the touch pad to the main pc board. remove the ribbon cable for 1 min. re install it back and test the unit.
be sure to return all cover and screws of the unit before plugging it back. microwaves are hazardous to your health.
