How to reset bios password

You'll need to find out which screws hold the keyboard in. Usually three or four and are on the bottom of the laptop. After unscrewing them you'll have to pry off the plastic part (carefully) that is just under where your laptops screen is. Then you will see two, three, or four screws that hold the keyboard in. Unscrew those, then gently lift up the keyboard and you should see a small round button battery somewhere on the exposed part. That is the CMOS/BIOS battery. (Note you might have to take more screws out on the back if the battery is hidden under a part, but usually it is visible and you can get to it) remove that battery for 1/2 hour or longer, and put it back. This usally will reset the bios and its password. Also note tho, that some newer boards that won't work on, and you'll need to buy software especially for reseting the password in the BIOS. Youtube has some 'videos' that advertise those softwares. Try the battery thing first tho. If uncomfortable doing that first part to get to the battery yourself, you will want someone who knows how to take apart a laptop to do it for you.

How to disable drivelock password.I don't know the password. It was inadvertantly set by one of my kids.

Unless you set a master DriveLock password to reset it with, then (according to HP at least) the hard drive will be rendered completely unusable. I think your best bet would be to try and get your kids to give you the password.

How to disable drivelock password

The Compaq drivelock feature is designed to protect the data on a laptop's hard drive by assigning a password.

This password protects the drive in the event the laptop is lost or stolen, but can be removed when necessary.

Knowing how to remove or change the drivelock feature can make your Compaq more useful and more secure.

Power on your laptop and enter the drivelock password you established when you turned the drive protection feature on.

You will need this password to access the drive and turn off the drivelock feature.

Click the "Disabled" option in the drivelock menu.

This will turn off the drivelock feature on the Compaq laptop.

Do not enter anything in the password blocks.

Log on to the laptop, click the "Start" button and choose "Shut down." Choose "Restart" from the menu to power cycle your laptop and verify the drivelock setting is off.

If the drivelock setting is off you will not be prompted for a password when the laptop starts up.

hope this helps

When Booting My Compaq Presario 2100 It Goes To A Black Screen And Ask Enter Drivelock Password .Ihave Not Used Any Passwords .Can't Get Pass This ,Any Ideas? Richard

Try entering your "Setup" or "BIOS" and find the area for "Security". From there you should be able to change the password that it has on it. If your "Setup" or "BIOS" has a password on it and you don't know it, then it is likely that your laptop is worthless to you now. Unlike desktop computers that usually have a BIOS or CMOS reset on the motherboard, laptops seldom have this option. If your's has a RESET on it then it will likely be a little pin-hole on the bottom of the laptop that says RESET next to it.

Reset bios password of HP omnibook xe4100

If you don't know the password on the BIOS of your laptop, then it's likely that you won't be able to reset it. That's a down-side about putting BIOS passwords on a laptop. Some of the laptops were made with a reset button on the bottom of the computer. If your computer has it, it will look like the usual hole for a reset button. If you find a reset button on your laptop, then you are fortunate - just don't stick anything in the hole that will conduct electricity. If your laptop doesn't have a reset button hole, then about the only other way to reset\remove the password is to find someone who has schematics of that particular motherboard and is able to replace the BIOS chip. This is likely to cost you alot of money - probably more than the computer is worth.

Forgot my drivelock password

First thing to do is to remove the DriveLock password or reset it back the default one.
Remove the BIOS Battery and all other power sources of your laptop (including the main battery) at least 10 minutes.
Then press and hold down the power button for a few seconds to discharge the laptop completely.
Good luck!
Please rate me.
Thank you.

Drivelock password

If the lock is on the bios, then remove the bios battery and all other power sources to the laptop. (including the main battery) for at least 10 minutes. Then press and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge the laptop completely.
When you first boot back up you will have to enter the bios and reset all the options.

If this is a lock on the Hard Drive though, then it will have to be removed by a professional outfit. Replacing the drive is cheaper unless you need the data off it of course.
Sometimes there is a master lock key that is set at the factory that can bypass this as well, but I would need your hard drive model to even begin to look for it.

If the lock is in a security chip on the laptop itself, then the only way to remove it is to have the old chip removed and a new one attached. Very expensive. Again there are places that can do it.

So, please report back exactly what the message says and we can look into it further from there =)
