First hook up the web cam,,then boot up your laptop,,,windows will probably load or ask for drivers at this point,,,put the installation disc in the cd drive and finish the rest of the setup(that is if you have a disc or one is necessary)
Now,,get back on here and tell us what type of messaging program you are going to use,,or what is your daughter on,, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messenger ????

You will need a software for video communication. I recommend installing Skype on both computers. If cameras are working properly, you should be able to communicate with your granddaughter.

You can download Skype here.

How do i set up my webcam to talk to my family

Assuming webcam is separate device. Most of these are typically USB connected. You should have webcam software to drive the camera. The software is a video encoder to package and deliver video content. Typically now, webcams have microphones built-in for audio. Install the software first, then connect the web cam to a USB port. This type wil only fit a certain connecter and only one way. Do not force to prevent damage. The software should provide a means to test your webcam and any microphone. You can also use something like Yahoo! Instant Messenger or Skype to test a connection with video.

Hp pavillion dv 6700

The WEB cam (camera) is normally a USB device, it can send and capture video images as well as still images. You can talk and see people over the Internet with a WEB cam.
You need to install WEBcam software for that particular model WEBcam on your computer and configure it to run with Skype, or any other VOIP (voice over IP) software. The WEBcam software will allow you to create a video (movie) and take still photos, it will allow you to store these images on your computer.

Web cam use with skype

When you sign in to Skype, you'll need to check your settings (the tab where you change your wallpaper, sounds, privacy, etc. You'll find an area for configuring your webcam, just follow the directions and make sure you give Skype the permission to start your webcam. You can also change the settings of your webcam to automatically respond to programs you choose. It's a great cam, I was able to talk to my husband and kids very easily from Sweden via Skype in February, the sound is very good and the pictures are not bad at all. I also can talk to my friend in Sweden, now that I'm home and it works great.
