Printer does not communicate with computer and printer cannot retrieve application lists

    Lexmark X5340 , Model # 4434-004, Factory ID B , Serial No: 000J0549301------2008/08 (new--just purchased to go with my new Dell Vista computer. The computer says there is no communication between the printer and itself; the printer says it cannot retrieve its application lists.

    Let's concentrate on the second part of the question...we're getting nowhere with the first part. The printer says it "cannot retrieve application lists".

I think your printer's model no. is X5430 not 5340.

    Does your computer sees your printer. Go to control panel-> systems-> hardware tab-> device manager-> can you see any exclamation mark or cross(x) mark next to any device?

Have u run hardware detection on the dell, go to start menu, then click control panel then in control panel select then printers and other hardware, then select add new hardware, then just follow the on screen instructions.

Are you sure you have drivers for Windows Vista (not for Windows XP). You can download drivers for Windows Vista this way:

  1. Visit this link.
  2. Type 5320 in Search by Model field.
  3. Choose Lexmark X5320 model.
  4. Select Windows Vista as your operating system.
  5. Click Download Now.

Re install printer software and drivers and restart and try again!

    What you will see


    A"No communication" dialog appears when you try to print or scan.
    What to do

    Make sure the correct port is selected in the Properties screen. To do this:



      1. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.

      2. Double-click on the Printers folder.

      3. Right-click on the printer icon and select Properties.

      4. In the Properties screen, click the Port tab.

      5. Ensure that the printer port is set to one of the USB port options; see below.


        Click here to view an enlarged version of this image.

      6. Select the port and click OK.

      7. You may need to reboot the PC for the change to take effect.


    NOTE: The
    printer icon may not be displaying in the notification area (the
    "systray"). Once the port is correctly selected, the icon should
    appear there.

    You may need to download the driver, which I would think to be odd on a Vista machine, but whoo knows?

    Let me know what you find. I can walk you through getting it online.

    I assume you do have it connected to the USB port, and that it was recognized by Vista? If it was not recognized, you'll probably need the drivers.

    Unplug and replug the USB cable from your printer and computer and also try connecting the usb cable to a different usb port on that computer...

Try using the Lexmark Printer Home software to scan. To access that, on your computer, click on Start > All Programs > Lexmark > Lexmark Printer Home.

HI,

You can try out these two options one by one to fix it up:

A)
1 Unplug the printer.
2. Uninstall the drivers.
3. Reboot the machine.
4. Go to the lexmark site and download the drivers.
5. Install the new drivers.

B)You will get the "CANNOT RETRIEVE APPLICATION LIST" if your pc blocks the communication from the printer. This can be configured in your personal firewall. This can be Windows Firewall (found in Control Panel, Security Center), Symantec Client Firewall or similar. Depending on the configuration of this firewall you might or might not get pop-up messages from the firewall during installation. These pop-ups will allow you to permanently allow for this incoming communication. But your firewall might be set not to let you decide anything which will typically mean that the calls will be blocked out. This will often be the case if you have a company laptop configured by the company IT dept. You might then have to ask an admin to add exceptions the applications used by Lexmark as the configuration might not be open for you to change.

Lexmark x5650 cannot retrieve application list


A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).


If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

Lexmark X4550 Scanner not working

My Printer Lexmark X4580 will not scan. I get the following message-Cannot retrieve Application List. Printing and copying works fine.

Reboot your computer. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Try to scan again.
If that doesn't help, try to reinstall the printer software on your computer. This will help repair any corrupted files necessary for scanning or printing.

the reason why the printer is giving you that error msg is because the all in one center is not communicating properly with the programs on your computer to your printer.

try to scan directly to your computer using the all in one center instead.

Cannot retrieve application list


Try resetting the printer by turning it off, disconnecting it from the computer, restart the computer, turn the printer back on and then reconnect it to the computer. If this doesn't work try reinstalling the drivers and software.

It might be firewall, or in my case I was connected to my office over VPN. VPN connection from my PC blocked printer communication. Disconnected VPN and it started working.

Lexmark Scanner - "cannot retrieve application list" Won't Scan - HELP please!


Microsoft Paint ----> 'File' ------> 'From scanner or camera' (when in scan mode on printer). Just tried this and it really works.
