Question about Epson Stylus Photo 1280 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Epson 1280 Photo Stylus

The printer seems to have "died". I cannot get the printer to turn on. In the meantime I have replaced it with an old HP 820cse, at least a dozen years old and it works just fine. It was plugged into the same outlet, and I went through the support recommendation of Epson Support. What could be the problem? Is there an internal fuse or something like that?

It also has a tendency to print red or pink lines along with the text. That was the last time it worked. I had to make a couple of signs from MS Publisher in black and white, and I got the pink lines. I guess this indicates the print heads need cleaning, yes?

Not to be too facetious, I decided to invest in another printer...so that's how I'm going to "fix" this problem. I was told that it was an internal electrical problem and that I should take it back to where I had it serviced for overflow ink pads. The printer worked fine until a few days ago. What that technicion told me at the time, is that he didn't replace the ink pads, just cleaned them and re-set the counter (that tells you when to replace those pads). I suspect now that the problem might be in the counter. Yes, I could take the printer back, a pain-in-the-neck; whether they would charge me for another visit, I don't know since this is a different problem. The unit is a few years old....do I pump more money into it or just get a new one, since they are relatively inexpensive. Because of that, I'm not sure I want to invest in another Epson brand printer. The difference in the problem, is that when I needed new ink pads, the red and green lights flashed alternately, even though it wouldn't print. Now none of the lights comes on. I'm trying to resurrect an old Epson 1280 Photo Stylus. I've changed ink cartridges, and run the head cleaning/nozzle check utility numerous times, but nothing prints out on any test pages, nor on any...

It's time to "cut your losses"; either the electronics that tells the inkjets when to shoot ink is screwy, or the inkjets are totally plugged, despite the "cleaning" cycles.

Responsibly recycle the printer, and buy a new printer.
Maybe, try to find another Epson that accepts the same ink-cartridges that you recently inserted into the old printer.

Is there a windows 7 driver for the Epson 1280???

There is no specific Windows 7 driver but you can download the latest version of Epson EasyPrint for Win 7 at the following Epson support link

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?oid=14387&prodoid=28907797&BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Downloads&platform=Windows&x=26&y=10

The current official word on drivers is to continue to use the Vista 32bit driver until one is released for Win7.

Epson stylus photo 1280 Isn't the printer working if I only have a black ink full?

It doesn't matter whether the cartridges are full, but both cartridges need to have ink in order for the 1280 to work.
