My brother MFC 8500 is receiving alright but everything I send out has a big black streak going down the right side of the page. Confirmation page also has big black streak.

Let me see if I got this right.

The received fax is clean but when you send one out it has a black streak on it.
Cool! So far so good.
Makes sense because for sending, the fax scans the original document and parts of the scanning area could be dirty and so on. Therefore a black streak may appear.
The same black streak would also appear when you make a copy, because the original document must also be scanned.
Logical!

However for receiving faxes, the machine uses the internal memory and the print engine only, and the same applies to printing the transaction report, which comes from inside via the print engine.
The scanner has no rol in either situation.

Now I'm lost!

Are you able to receive faxes? This problem could be caused by several factors - e.g quality of signal, fax settings, etc. This article in the Lexmark website will help you determine and resolve your fax problem: Main Contributing Factors to a Fax Send Failure on an Inkjet All-In-One (AIO).

I have a lexmark x6570. I have att uverse phone/internet/tv. I have always been able to send/receive faxes. Now i can receive a fax, but cannot send one. When I do, the transmission report says...

Try dialing *82 and then the full fax # you are calling. AT&T sometimes has issues with caller ID functions, and I found that this caused me to be able to receive a fax, but not send one. Post back and advise whether this resolves your problem.

We have a Brother intellifax 4750e. When we send a fax, there is a black streak down the right hand side of the paper. When we receive a fax, the streak is not there. The streak is about 1" wide. ...

Try cleaning the rollers with rubbing alcohol using a good quality paper towels, I find there is a buildup on the rollers causing streaking on the paper. If that fails the print head must be suspect.

The receiver states that our faxes that we send are unreadable down the right side of the paper--white or dark streak. The faxes we receive are ok

The glass scanner window (narrow strip of glass) needs cleaning. One "spot" of dirt will appear as a streak on the receiving end.
If you "copy" a document you can check the streak and see how effective your cleaning is.

Blank Streaks

streaks are caused either by the toner, drum, lamp or fuser.

If you make a copy and it does not show a streak then it was done by the person sending the fax. BUT, check this,

open door and take out toner cartridge. look for a thin glass that is on the bottom of the machine and wipe it. Toner spills will cause a black streak.
