I have a hp pavilion pc that I just put a new hard drive in, can't seem to recoverery disk to work, it telling me no boot file name received, what does mean? Or what do I need to do?

I'm not sure what your exact model is, but the first thing I would check regardless is the boot sequence.

  • F1 or F10 to acces the BIOS Select
  • System boot configuration
  • Boot options
  • Make sure the boot order is set to start with our disk drive
  • F1 or F10 to save any changes made (there is a list of what each key does, usually on the very top of the screen)
  • Follow on screen shortcuts for exiting without saving if the settings are correct.
  • Re-boot

Hope this helps!

How do I get to the boot sequence on my probook 4730s laptop?

Most PCs have a boot screen message (like a logo) and somewhere on the page it says something to the effect of 'press F1 for setup' which takes you into the BIOS. Look for this message, and it will get you into BIOS where you can edit the boot sequence. If the boot screen flashes too quickly start hitting keys such as F1, F10, Del, Esc and see if it takes you in.... usually BIOS is one of those keys in my eleven years experience.

EVERYTIME I TRY TO START MY TOSHIBA LAPTOP UP,I JUST JKEEP GETTING A MESSAGE SAYING BOOT MGR. I PRESS DEL,ALT AND CTRL BUT THEN THE MESSAGE JUST REPEATS. AND I DO NOT HAVE ANY BACKUP OR RECOVERY DISCS.

Right after you turn on the pc, go into the bios. Usally by hitting f1, f2, or del. just keep hitting those 3 keys as it boots. Once in the bios, find the boot manager option and disable it. hit f10 to save changes and exit and your pc should restart.

Can't boot from usb drive or usb cdrom Tendai

Try to get into the BIOS - when computer first starts a message bottom left will show.... press F1 to enter Set up it migght show esc F1 or F2 or something like that . Whatever it is - Tap that key AS SOON AS YOU SEE THE MESSAGE. - you may have to have one or two attempts you may be lucky and get it first time.
In BIOS go to the BOOT screen - (usually right arrow key to get there) Usually the top item is "Boot order" highlight it and tap the Enter key
Hilight the CDROM line and follow help file on the right ( maybe F5/F6 to move up/down) move cd to top line... this is the 'boot from' line
Note - to boot from USB stick - it MUST be in place BEFORE you go into BIOS - hilight the USB Stick and move that up to the top.
Tap the F10 key then Enter to save and exit BIOS.
Tap the enter key when "hit any key to boot from CD" appears
Done.
Cheers.

My acer travelmate can't boot it says system failure imminent replace hard disc 2. It says press F1 to continue

the error is telling you that your hard drive is in the process of failing. if you press f1 to continue you might still be able to boot. I recommend you backup your files as soon as possible if your still able too.

after that, you will need to get a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system.

thanks adi

Hi:
as your Dell boots up, you need to start hitting the F1 key to enter setup, and once you are in, you can tab thru the various pages of settings. When you are done, hit F10 to save and exit.
