I bought Ratchet & Clank for my PS3 and it refuses to load the game. I have 57 GB of hard drive available and it says I need 419 MB free on my hard drive. I have deleted some duplicate game loads but this didn't help. I deleted 1.2 GB, updated system and still it doesn't load. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
For some reason this software has a glitch that won't allow it to load unless you delete one of your profiles from any game. I deleted/transfered to stick a 132 MB profile from Saints row II and it loaded. I didn't need to delete 419 MB as it stated. The game loaded and plays perfectly now. I see that even a new virgin system with zero profiles does the same thing. I guess you need to download any profile of any size and delete it before you can load this one. It should have been worked out before the game was released. I am sure that there were more than a few unhappy kids Christmas morning due to this. Thank you anyway.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

So what causes the video gaming happy to suddenly cease and desist? James Stevenson explains that like Resistance: Fall of Man, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
needs to install a few files into your hard drive for the game to
actually run. Here's where things start getting a little dicey: even
though you've got loads of free space on your hard drive, the game
could read your hard drive as full, and therefore refuse to install.
What's the workaround, then? It's really a simple
procedure. James advises that to make the problem go away, all players
need to do is either free up 500 megabytes' worth of space, or download
500 megabytes worth of data from the PlayStation Network
Store. Yes, we know, it's weird, having to fill up your hard drive just
so a game can detect all the loads of free space available, but if it
lets us play something as good as Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, then fill up we must.
This is a common problem (bug) with this game. Basically you have to delete something, anything, off your harddrive. If you have nothing on then download a demo or something then delete it. This should fool yr ps3 into releasing the space you need to play r&c.
sometimes even if you have loads of free space on the hard drive it will think that the hard drive is full. (crazy I know), but if you can download data on the harddrive at least 500 mb worth then it will recognise the rest of the free space that you have and will load okay.
Alternativley to this if you do not have enough free space left on your hard drive (hardly likey), delete some stuff that you don't need any more.
Get a music CD and put it in the machine, then press the triangle and select import. You may have to use more than one CD to get it to work. There are some files missing that are needed for Ratchet & Clank which are on music CD's.
this is a known big in the game , i listed the report below
We have identified a data loading issue with PS3 and Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, which may affect users who boot the game up for the first time.
During the pre-game set-up procedure, game data is automatically saved to the PS3 HDD. It has been found that, on occasion, this data fails to copy to the HDD, with an on-scree message claiming that there is insufficient space to do so - despite the fact that there is in fact enough free space on the drive.
ACTION: For every 4GB of HDD space, there is a 540MB range that will cause the game to display a message indicating that there is insufficient space to create game data. This message will therefore occur when the following amount of free space is on the HDD:
- 4010-4550MB; - 8010-8550MB; - 12010-12550MB; - at every subsequent 4GB interval (i.e 16010-16550MB, etc)
If the PS3 HDD is within any of these ranges when booting without game data created, this message will appear. After game data is created, this will never appear, so if a user doesnt encounter it at first, they never will. Any users who do receive this message will need to either delete data from or save data to the HDD, so that the amount of free space no longer lies within the range detailed above
most likely your hard drive is full.
Go to Settings-System settings-System information. it should tell you free space on your hard drive from your total available space.
Your drive is probably filled with demos and saved data from previous games, maybe music or even dowloaded movies.
If still had the same issue after the restore there is a chance that your hard drive was swapped for a very small one. ckeck the system info first:
Free space : 12 GB/37 GB this is for a 40 gb
If that is the problem you need a different hard drive (SERIAL ata 5400 rpm ).. upgrading the hard is easy.. or even go with an external drive.
I finally bought my router from amazon ($45) which enabled me to sign up for playstation network. From there I downloaded a free trial game and deleted it which allows you to play ratchet and clank. I am not very computer savy so it took me a bit to get the playstation online via the router. After playing the game for a week I can honestly say that it was worth all the trouble. One of the all time great games especially if you have kids. Using a wireless router seems to be the only way to overcome your situation. I wasn't thrilled about having to buy it after the money I spent on the PS3 but at least I am now connected to the Playstation network and can download Ratchett and Clank part II (can't remember title).
