MY SWINTEC 7040 WON'T RELEASE MARGIN.

I KNOW WHERE THE MARGIN RELEASE KEY IS BUT IT'S STILL NOT RELEASING IT AND IT ACTS LIKE IT IS STUCK. DO I NEED A NEW TYPEWRITER? AND ALSO IF I TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON IT WILL ACT BETTER FOR LIKE ONE TIME THEN GETS STUCK AGAIN!

Chances are, you need to clean and put a light oil on the silver rod that the carriage moves on. it will get dry and you will lose your left margins. pretty common on these model and others.

good luck,

How do I increase the margins on the typewriter

To set a margin beyond the left or right margin, move the carrier (or cursor) to that margin, press the Margin Release key, then proceed to move the carrier (or cursor) to the desired position. Then, press the Left or Right margin key to set the new margin. A beep will sound indicating the new margin has been set. When you set a new left or right margin, the previous margin is automatically cleared.

Alternatively, you can type beyond the right margin by pressing the Margin Release key and then continue typing when the carrier (or cursor) stops at the right margin. To type beyond the left margin, press the Margin Release key and then the Backspace key to move the carrier (or cursor) to the position where you want to start typing.

Remember to always use genuine Swintec ribbons and lift-off tapes for your Swintec 7040, which can be found at Swintec Typewriter Supplies .

Hi,
On carriage return the machine locates LH margin. In your case the LH margin is set in centre.
Press the margin release key when at the margin location position.
Use the backspace key to return to the extreme left.
Space forward to were you want the new margin.
Press Margin Left set.

MARGINS: Left margin space or tab to where you want margin set and depress the mar L key. Sometimes the key has to be depressed as you hit the code key. Code key usually keys have second message are in green, yellow or red. Use code key with the small print on the key to activate that function.... Good luck
