I puchased the demo model at Home Depot, of course, with no instructions. The remote control has 4 toggle switches in it which are set, but I cannot find the toggles on the fan. I'm assuming that they are set differently. I either need to know what the default setting is or where to find them on the fan itself. Any ideas?
The remote "reciever" is seperate from the fan. It is black in color with 6 wires, one being the antenna. It is wired together inside the fan canopy. If you do not have the reciever then you will have to buy a new one. You can purchase just the reciever, but you will need your remote to match it with

Try Home Depot. They sell Hampton Bay fans. They should have replacement remotes.
Here is one that Amazon sells. If you order oline, check to see if your model number is
what the remote will control. Also return policy of the seller if it doesnt work. May be easier
to go to Home Depot with a picture of the fan, or model number if you can locate it. Remember
that you will still have to figure out what settings to set the switches to that control the channel
the remote works on. It's do-able. http://www.amazon.com/Hampton-Bay-Portable-Ceiling-Control/dp/B002L9SHJ4
Radio Shack or Home Depot should have the switch you need. If not find a local Electrical Supply House or a Graybar, they will have the switch for sure. Make sure the breaker is off before changing out!
I have one of these. I remember from when I bought it years ago, it was one of those "as seen on TV" products and I think I only spent maybe $5 for it. Anyway mine stopped working but I don't think it was the switch transmitter that failed, it was the receiver light fixture that went bad. I still have the TX switch which I thought might be useful if I ever bought another one, then I could have 2 switches to control one light.
Anyway, I"m only posting here because I wanted to see if there was any info on this item out there, but it looks like it is obsolete and the company makes different models now like their competition. Check at Menards or Home Depot. Sometimes they have these on the clearance rack for $4-$5. I got a set of 3 receiver outlets with a remote that controls each independently for $4 at Menards awhile back.
I'm pretty sure that home depot does sell remotes for that brand, although you may have to buy a new receiver to go with it. Otherwise try a lighting store near where you live. They seem to be able to order things like that.
Turn the unit onto standby then press and hold the menu button then scroll down to demo using the toggle switch on the right then press and hold the toggle switch for a few seconds and it will change to demo off. It's not too difficult but you are correct, it doesn't tell you correctly in the installation instructions.
This is one of the best solution to do, look for unit who have same model as your unit( to your friends or neighbors) and test your remote control. If it work in another unit with same model then the remote control is defective, but if it works then its the receiver.
But try this solution first, if there is a reset button in your remote try to reset it then try the remote to your unit.
1. Turn Radio On 2. Change Source input to Stand-By ( Puts radio in display only Stand By mode.) 3. Press Menu Button ( Gives you standby menu) 4. Toggle display with control knob until DEMO ON appears 5. Hold control knob in until DEM0 OFF appears 6. Press Menu Button 7. Change source back to music. All done. same as other Fixes - Just step by step!
