Your camera is set to 2nd curtain sync. You will have to go into your cameras custom functions, and disable it.
Hope this helps,
/Chris

When using the flash is takes 4/5 seconds before I can take another picture. The taken photo appears for about 1 second then the screen goes black for 4/5 seconds before I can take another picture

Friend,

You are using a 10 MP camera. Imagine the size of the picture taken. It is massive. And so would the size in megabytes. To save those many MBs is a time consuming affair. that is what takes 4 to 5 seconds. And during that time the camera can do nothing else.

Do not worry. The camera is fine. Just that you have a very good camera and do not realize it.

As regards the photo being visible for a second only, you can change the settings and have the picture on display for a longer duration. That would be fine as while you are viewing the pic, the camera is busy saving the pic file. You would not feel those 4 to 5 seconds at all.

Camera will not take pictures when the flash is on

You may have a weak battery. If the flash doesn't have enough power, it will continue to try to recharge thus preventing you from taking a picture. Turning it off allows the pic to be taken.

Digital rebel XS - flash delay

Your camera is set to syncronize the flash on the second shutter curtain. Check your custom functions/custom settings, and disable it. It's called "second curtain sync" or "2nd curtain sync". Nikon call it "Rear Sync".
Hope this helps,

Delayed shutter

Here as in some other posts, you can try to RESET the firmware in the menus. Go through the menus and find where it says something like reset all.
What this does is to reset it back to factory settings.
Then set the options you like, and then try the camera again.

Check the diff. modes for the picture taking. See if the flash can be turned off.

Delay when taking picture.

The delay is absolutely normal. When you press the button to take a picture, the camera takes its 1-3 seconds to focus on the image, prepare the flash. Once that's done, the camera "clicks" and the photograph is taken.

Happy shooting!

Power key doesn´t work

There must be a problem with your batteries. If you have recently charged your batteries and it happens again, you should try a new set of rechargeable batteries.

You can try conserving charging power usage on camera by turning the flash off so that it doesn't precharge for the next shot.

Recharge of flash

Sony H1 camera has a delay to recharge the flash and I hope that you know that as you are using it for the last three years. If the time delay is a new issue check the MAH of the battery to ensure that it will be above 2200 at least. If the MAH is below 2200 it is natural that the time delay will be more to recharge the flash. If my solution proves good please rate it. Regards.
