Make sure the dvd +rw or -rw are compatable with your unit. Some do one or the other and some do both.

Laptop doesn't recognise DVD rewriter - LG

If your laptop dont recognise dvd rewriter it may be due to many reason it may either due to Ide cable or a registry issue or a hardware issue .Try following steps :

1 make sure you have correctly inserted the IDE and Power Cables. Fault of putting the IDE cable in the wrong way around make this happen.
2 Make one drive the the Master and the other the Slave, don't set both to Cable Select.

Is it not recognizing the drives in the BIOS or Windows? Try changing IDE cables?

If BIOS, have you gone into the BIOS and verified that the drives are detected? Try changing the BIOS settings for the IDE Channels from AUTO to CD_ROM. At least then, from a hardware viewpoint, you are forcing the system to recognize.

3 If you have an older player, check with the manufacturer to see whether an update to the firmware is available. Many newer DVD titles with lots of special features are famous for causing problems on older players.

4 If its a registry issue then try following steps but remember first take back up of your registry
Start the Run Command Prompt

Type in "regedit" without the parrenthesis then click ok

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Then SYSTEM

Then CURRENT CONTROL SET

Then CONTROL

Then CLASS

Then find {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

The whole thing looks like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Then delete the upper and lower filters....

RESTART YOUR COMPUTER THEN THERE YA GO!!!! HOPE THIS HELPS

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i believe you cannot rewrite onto dvd+r nor dvd-r. you need dvd+rw. then you can rewrite and add on to it. there is also
dvd-rw which you can rewrite on to. most dvd burners accept both types. you'll need to check your burner's info to find out. it might be on the front of the unit itself if it's not covered by the computer's burner door.

How do you use the combo I tried but I did it wrong it says wrong dvd and it is a rewritable one Thamks

The Go Video VR 4940 can only record to DVD -R and DVD -RW discs. It cannot record to +R or +RW discs. It can play back many types of discs, but can only record to the -R and -RW ones.

Unable to copy dvd's

Most dell machines do no come with dvd rewriting as standard. They only come with cd rewriting capability. Unless you specifically requested it as an add on to the spec it probably just has the ability to pay dvd's.

Most internet cafe's will have a machine with a dvd rewriter if you really need to copy a dvd
