Question about Kenmore 73502 / 73504 / 73509 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

Trio Bottom Freezer-Ice in Freezer

I have ice in the freezer on the food and the walls of the freezer and the refrigerator seems cold even though its set to 38 and freezer temp is 0 I called Sears. but of course the warranty has expired. My husband says to raise the temperature and see what happens.  What might be going on.  Could this be very expensive to fix?  Sears has an option to pay a certain amount for the year or pay for one time plus parts and labor.  Thanks,

need to check for ice build up in air vent. if not make sure you hear your evap fan blowing in the freezer section. this blows your cold air into the fresh food side. do you have ice build up on rear wall of freezer section?

Freezer not freezing properly, ice on back wall

Ice on the back wall indicates a problem with the defrost cycle. The ice builds up and starts to choke off the air flow, so your symptoms would indicate that may be happening.

Defrost problems are usually any of the three components, the heater element, the defrost termination temp switch, or the defrost timer.

Ice on back walls and in freezer-Trio 596

Look for frost on the backside of the freezer wall. If you have some then you probably have a bad defrost heater. Remove the rear access panel and inspect for ice. Get a hairdryer and remove the ice and replace defrost heater assembly. This is a fairly easy job.

GE Refrigerator Freezer warm

the frost on the back wall of the freezer is the clue to the problem. it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

Freezer was left ajar & now Refrigerator does not work properly

you have ice build up on the evaporator. two ways to cure. first switch off for 24 hours and leave with doors open. second switch off. remove back panel inside freezer and melt ice off with a hair dryer
