Yes change the information for the WEP Key. That is your network password. If someone wants to use your wireless network then they have to type in the WEP key. Let me know if you have any further questions. Don't forget to rate this 4 stars before you log out.

I need the Network security key to add my lapptop to the router.

First, let's log on to the router.
  1. Open your internet browser and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. This is the default IP address of the browser.
  2. In the login box that appears type 'admin' (without quotes) in both fields. 'admin' is the default username and password.
Write down the SSID
  1. In the Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings menu you will see the Service Set Identifier or SSID. The SSID differentiates one wireless network from another. It is the 'network name'. Write it down, or copy paste it to a text file. You will need it later. You can first set your own SSID if you like.
In the Linksys WRT54G router you will find the wireless security options under Wireless > Wireless Security. This page allows you to set wireless encryption options.
'WRT54G opensources.png
here you will find you wireless key. this can only be done by a machine connected directly by network wire. make sure you are connected first. wireless is unable to connect unless it is directly connected.

How to change password

to change the password, assuming you have not changed the default administration passwords point your browser to "192.168.1.1" Once there you should have a login screen. linksys default is "administrator" AND "admin" as the username and password. Here you should have access to the full control panel. You can change the wireless password as well as any other settings.

How do I change the name of my wireless connection? I have the Linksys WRT54G and right now it says Linksys. I want to change it so that I can tell which connection is mine. Thanks.

All Linksys routers have a web interface to them. You should be able to go to http://192.168.1.1 or something similar (see your manual) in Internet Explorer.

Once you’re in your administrator panel you can setup the name of your wireless network, and I would recommend that you flip on some type of security as well so, your neighbors/coworkers don't get to play on your connection!

Hope this helps!
