Question about D-Link 802.11g Wireless Router WBR-1310 (WBR1310)

1 Answer

We are using Vonage for our phone service and have problems with calls breaking up and blank periods of time during conversations where one side can hear the other but the other side hears nothing. I called Vonage and they said I should set up a password for our D Link 1310 wireless router to see if that would help the problem. How do I do that?

Ok..
you need to setup the password for the router here are the steps,
go to the computer where the router is connected, click on start, run and type in cmd and hit enter, once you hit enter you will get a black box in that box type in ipconfig and hit enter, once you hit ipconfig you will see a list of results from those results check what is the default gatway the generic default gateway is 192.168.0.1,if it is diffenrent then the setup must have been done in that way now go ahead and pull up internet explorer out here on the address box type in the default gateway without http or www,now it will open up a user name and password page in that box type in user name as admin and leave password blank and hit enter, this will lead you to the dlink page, click on the tab that says tool under tools the first page will show you to configure the password, now there are 2 users one admin and user make sure that you put the same password in both the account so that there is not confusion in the future....hope this works if you are stuck then let me know..

Never buy Netgear. They design product so it won't work unless you pay more for technical support. They told me the technicians during the 90 day warranty are not good enough to fix problems, so you can't get solution until warranty runs out and you have to pay extra!

Wireless connection is intermittent

You may have interference with other devices in the same range as your router.
If you have Vonage then you may have issues with some routers also. If you do have Vonage, then try to make sure your router is not on the same leg of your networ as your vonage modem.

Will my answering machine work with my u-verse

Unfortunately it may or may not be fully compatible. First you will need to make sure that all call forwarding features are turned off for your voice service so that calls will not go to voice mail before your machine can pick up. Now is where the issue of compatibility comes in, most answering machines continue recording messages until a certain amount of silence is detected on the line and the recording then stops. With some machines the period of time before the recording stops is too long, when the other party hangs up the phone the systems puts out a busy dial tone signal which the machine may mistake as a continuous message and use up all the space for messages on a single call. This of course means no other messages can be recorded till the previous message has been deleted. So to see if your machine is fully compatible means you must simply try and see.

Getting WEP network encryption

When You click on show all characters you simply have to type in the pass phrase you selected when you set up your router. If you forgot what you used go back and reset your router and set up the wep again and use something you will not forget. I use my phone number. Hope this helps get you up and running. If you need more help just ask. geokohler@gmail.com Send me your number and I will call you for free, I do this for a hobby so there will be no charge for my help. Let me know if you need me,
George
Ps. WEP encryption is not very secure, there is a program called netstumbler that can break in in less then 2 minutes. You might want to use the stronger encryption if you want to keep people off your bandwidth!

Send and receive fax

Faxes cannot be received but they can be sent Review the information below to determine why faxes are not being received.
  1. Phone company services: Do you have any of the following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail, Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, and Privacy Manager. These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will also stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these services.
  2. If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup.
  3. If an answering machine is connected to the same line, fax reception problems can occur. These problems may be corrected by changing settings or phone line connections
  4. If you have a PBX phone system, or an ISDN or DSL modem connected to the line, there may be some phone line configuration problems. Fax machines are analog devices and cannot be used on a digital phone service such as those used in many businesses (PBX systems). Install an analog phone line for a fax machine.
Faxes cannot be sent but can be received Follow the steps below to correct the problem.
  1. Verify that you are dialing the number correctly. You must dial all of the numbers required to make a phone call from the same line. This includes numbers that must be dialed to access an outside line or to access long distance services.
  2. If you have been using a speed dial or are faxing from the computer, print the page to be faxed and manually dial the number from the front panel of the fax. If the fax can be sent when dialed from the front panel, recreate the speed dial setting and insert some pauses.
  3. If you are trying to fax from the computer with a model that supports PC faxing and the fax does not try to dial when you send a fax job, test the communications to the all-in-one by clicking Status in the Director, or by trying to print to the all-in-one.
    • If this is reported as disconnected or printing fails, verify that the communications cable from the computer to the all-in-one is connected correctly and restart the computer.
    • If communications still cannot be established, troubleshoot the communications
  4. Faxes fail intermittently or with only one fax number
    • If static is present on the phone line, fax communication may fail. Have the phone line checked and serviced by the telephone company (or have the other party check their line). Phone line quality is the most common reason for intermittent fax failures. Some older locations and buildings have inadequate phone system wiring.
    • If you are trying to send a color fax and it fails, try sending the same machine a black and white fax. Normally the fax will detect that the other fax is not color capable and will offer you the option to send the fax as black and white but this might not always be the case. Do not send color faxes unless you know the other fax machine is capable of receiving color faxes.
    • Check the phone cable from the wall jack to the fax. It should not be coiled or longer than necessary. Coiling the cable can cause cross talk or echo on the line. Signal strength and quality can be lost with long cables.
    • Make sure the phone cable routing (and any cables not plugged into the same jack but sharing the same line) is not near any electrical appliances (electric motors, fans, kitchen appliances, or televisions). Many of these devices do not have sufficient electrical shielding and can induce electro-magnetic force (EMF) onto the phone line. Computers are usually shielded sufficiently and do not cause this problem.
    • Do not use a call-waiting service on the same line connected to the fax machine. The click sound caused by an incoming call can cause the fax to fail.
    • You can block certain faxes on some models. Verify that the telephone number of the sending fax is not blocked in the faxing software. This is usually located in the Fax History.
