Kenmore ultra fabric care I washer; 80 series- lid switch needs replaced
My kenmore washer stops during the rinsing cycle and won't drain or spin. The plastic lid switch is broken (not the white part on the lid, but the plastic part just under the lip). I see there are two screws but it has broken away from them and is just hanging underneath. It feels like it is connected to a wire of some sort. How do I replace it? Would a Sears hardware store have the part?
All three sites offer great service and have competitive pricing. So, shop all three for the best price. Just use your COMPLETE model number (usually located under the washer lid along the tub rim) to begin your search criteria. If you do not wish to order on line, use the part number provided by the Sears website and go to your nearest appliance parts retailer. Yes, this a part that they should carry in their inventory.

Check door switch: If
the lid switch is bad it will not drain or spin. Try this test: With lid open
let it finish wash cycle. Press lid switch down with screwdriver. Washer should begin draining.
Release switch. Motor should stop. Press
switch a second time. Washer should
start spinning as it continues to drain. If motor doesn't come on while lid
switch is pressed, replace the switch.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.
Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.
Kenmore Ultra Fabric Care Heavy Duty 80 Series washing machine (Model # 110.92389200; Serial # CF 1122814) went through the wash cycle completely, but rinse not the rinse cycle. Motor was going but washer not spinning. Also smelled something like burnt rubber. Could the belt have gone out? Is this something that I can fix myself?
