I want more RAM please!!

Hi guys, I'm looking to put 1Gb more RAM into my Phillips Iqon desktop computer, but I don't know how to be sure to get the right thing. I looked inside and the one already in there is DDR (400??) 512mb...i didn't count the pins. Do I need to know more about the bus speed and so on...?? I can't find any help from Phillips websites, there isn't even a model number for my machine, just IQON.

Pardon my ignorance guys, any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Loteck, I haven't been to the store yet so I was just looking on the net to find details of my current RAM, and possibly to find better value. I actually thought it was more expensive than it seems to be now..:-)

    Thanks again, appreciated.

Take your memory into the store when you go to buy. They should be able to match it. Before you take the memory out touch the metal on the computer case to discharge any static electricity from yourself. Apparently static electricity can damage memory.

I want to purchase 1gb extra RAM for my philips iqon Desktop computer - which one do i need?

One good and easy way to find out for sure how much RAM your can hold is to go to WWW.CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER feature.

This handy utility will scan your configuration and tell you exactly how much RAM you currently have installed and what type it is.

It will also tell you how many RAM slots are fitted on your motherboard and what the maximum memory capacity is for each slot and the total for that motherboard.

If your computer does have room to add more RAM, it will provide you with specific recommendations as to exactly what type and size of RAM stick to get to maximize the memory capacity and of your computer.

I hope that was helpful to you, good luck.

If you choose to rate this solution using the Thumbs Up scale provided, I thank you very much for your time and consideration.

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,
Dan

Do I need to buy 2 DDR2 Ram for my ASUS P5VDC-MX Motherboard?

with rams, if the memory it has is higher than that of your cpu, the pc will not boot up or if it is too low compared to your cpu again.

thus, you say it has got two slots right, remove both of the 512's and insert the 1gig only, run your computer, i am sure it will boot up nicely. switch it off. put one 512, if it does not boot then you should know that your ram has an excess of memory that your cpu could not apprehend to.

post a coment if this does not work.

thanks,

wonder

Dell 8400 new memory

If you are using Windows XP, go into your control panel, double click System (from classic view), and look towards the bottom where it says "Processor x.xx GHz, x.xx GB of RAM" and make sure your 2.00 GB of RAM is recognized by Windows. Next I would make sure you are using 400- or 533-MHz DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM. If you are, try removing one of the two modules and see if the computer runs smoothly. If it does, I would install a different brand of memory.

Sometimes, one memory slot can be on the opposite side of the motherboard, under the keyboard. Try removing the keyboard and look under there. If that doesn't help, let me know and I'll look it up in the service manual.

Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.
