The answering part of the machine will probably work as it is powered by the phone company circuit. If you do not put batteries in the BASE unit, it is line powered and will continue to work if batteries are dead. However, your handsets will not work, they will not ring and you will get no dial tone as they will not transmit a signal . A hint is to replace the batteries with new nickel-metal hydride batteries to assure long battery life if you have replaceable battery capability. Mine have lasted 10 years so far and still going strong!
Sounds like its either going offline maybe checking the outlet and the cord that plugs into the base. It may also be the battery needs replacing,it has been run down and charged again too many times.it may hold enough for a dial tone but not enuff to even ring, just beep I stead
Issue with your Line...Cherk wire phone line for bad connection from the wall to the unit .... Check for Power Corde .... try normal phome on avery single line check for tone ...If you do have tone reset your phone on default ...then re-program it Check also for backup Battery it a little rond Battery 3volts that preserve your memory in your phone ....
You need the specific battery pack: 5-2814 for the handset. This is a 850 mAh Nickel Metal hydride battery.
When I see a cordless phone that doesn't ring, the first thing I recommend checking is the phone jack and line itself with a second phone. I prefer to use a corded handset with a new phone cord to check for dial tone. If no dial tone at the jack, check for dial tone at the service entry box. If you have no dial tone at the service box, contact your provider. If it's only a problem at the jack, you will need to check your inside wiring.
To check the base, try a new cable (RJ-11) (double check the power as well).
To check the handset, first make sure the handset is fully charged (16 hours) and that the battery is fully installed. Does the handset beep when the Talk button is pressed? Next check that the handset ringer software is on. With the phone off (not in the talk mode), press the Mute/menu OK button. Use the Caller ID/volume (up/down) buttons to get to the Handset setup menu. Press the Mute/Menu OK button to access the menu. Use these buttons to check the Ringer Volume (should be on) and Ringer Tone. Press Mute/Menu OK to save the settings at each sub-menu. Check that the Do Not Disturb function is not on - this toggles with the Do Not Disturb button and should be noted on the handset screen when on.
If you have multiple extensions on the phone line, try unplugging some of them.
