Camera not recognized by computer

I keep getting a "no camera found" message when my Canon EOS 300 is plugged up to the computer and selecting the download images Tab from the Zoombrowser Ex window. It has worked in the past but now will not respond. It acts like something is locked on the camera but have not discovered anything. The USB cord works with a different camera,so I've ruled it out.Any suggestions would be appreciated..Thanks.

Re: Camera not recognized by computer

I'm no expert on technical matters but I'd try the following: - make sure the camera is switched on and not in play mode. - are you sure it's the same USB cord for that camera? (there may be subtle differences which means it cannot read the EOS 300). just a thought. - makes sure it's in the right USB port. I think a specific USB port is assigned when you install Zoombrowser - invest in a card reader. They're not that expensive, quicker to upload photos and preserve camera battery life. Quite a few photographers recommend using these. I've got a Lexar multi-card reader which only cost £15 and I've had no probs with it. And since it can read various cards it doesn't matter which camera you use. Hope that helps.

I attached the Canon EOS30D to new computer before loading the EOS Utility. Now I get the message Camera not recognized when I attach to down load photos. Can I fix this?

When you installed the utility is not an doesn't matter. Microsoft updates often prevents some hardware such as your camera from being recognized. Why not use a separate card reader to download your pics? every time.

Computer don't recognize the Canon EOS XSi

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
