Question about KitchenAid KBFA25ER Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator
Hi, I purchased a new GE refrigerator with freezer on to to be used in our garage as a second frig. I've had a refrigerator in that same spot for the last 30 years with no problems, but this new one won't work when temps to below 60 degrees. I'm mad because if I'd had known about his problem before, I would not have purchased it. GE tell's me that's it's my fault because I should have read the owners manual. But, I did not receive the manual until after I purchased it !!! So..... now I have a refrigerator that I can't use until the summer. I'm paying for this thing that I can only use 6 months out of the year. I want them to take it back, but they won't. Is there anything I can do??? Does anyone make a frig that can be used under 60 degrees anymore. Lot's of people have refrigerators in basements and garages as a second to use. What are they doing?
I use an old coke box cooler for a refrigerator on my back porch. For a freezer, I've got one in the garage.
As for dealing with GE, they do have a point. You did get the manual, and after receiving the refrigerator, should have read that it could not be used as you had planned, in which case you could have, or should have, returned it.
The new refrigerant requirements have forced the manufacturers to change their designs so they are not as tolerant to climate changes as they were in the past. Units are designed for their known environment window, and controls are utilized to protect them from operating in environments outside of that window, in order to protect the unit from failure (which would you rather have, a unit that works, or one that fails. I know, mute point, yours isn't working as you had intended.).
I suggest to craigslist or greensheet the refrigerator, and do research on the internet to determine which brand/model will suit your needs. GE may even build one, but you need to ask questions, and confirm the answers before you buy.
