Question about Lands Phones

We have a phone TRU9585 Series and it has been working well until yesterday the message on the screen reads: Handset Out of Range. It is sitting on the base !!

Try resetting. Check the battery on the handset. Check if sits properly. I mean, the contact between them is clean.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A couple of ideas you can try:
unplug the base and remove battery from handset for say 30 mins to an hour or even more. The idea is to reset the system. of course it is possible that stored phone numbers, memories and user settings would be erased reverting unit back to factory default. After said time, plug in the base, re-connect the handset's battery and proceed with registering/setup/pairing.

If the above is not corrective, then possibilities are:

  • defective transmitter section of the handset;
  • defective receive section of the base;
  • handset and base are not on the same channel.

From the Uniden support site.

You can first try a Basic Reset.

A reset is done by following the below steps:
1. Disconnect the battery from handset(s)
2. Disconnect Phone Cord from wall jack
3. Disconnect Phone cord from base unit
4. Disconnect AC adapter from wall outlet
5. Allow to sit for 30 min
6. Reconnect Phone Cord to base
7. Reconnect Phone cord to wall jack
8. Reconnect AC Adapter to wall outlet
9. Reconnect battery into handset until you click or feel the plug snap into place
10. Re-Register Handset by placing on main base

My uniden phone says - out of range


Uniden wxi477 out of range fix

This problem arises when the handset does not communicate with the base.
These are the steps:
1: Deregistering the handset
2: Registering the handset to base

Deregestering clears the stored (incorrect) base information on the handset.
Reregestering allows the base to assign a new ID for the handset.

Deregistering- press and hold the OFF (red button) and the # button on the handset for 5 seconds. select base unavailable and press OK. Are you sure appears. select yes and press OK. you will hear a confirmation tone. The handset will delete its own base information without trying to contact the base. It will now display MODELS VARY PLACE HANDSET ON THE BASE FOR REGISTRATION.

Registering the handset with the base- Make sure the tel. line and power is plugged into the base.
Press an hold the register button under the base (located between the tel. line and yellow power socket under the base) for 5 seconds until the red light flashes. At the same time press and hold the # button on the handset for 5 secs. You will hear a tone and It will now display REGISTRATION COMPLETE.

If it says registration failed: Retry the registration steps. Make sure the handset have enough battery power. If not charge for 15-20 hrs.
Check your connections on the base and make it is getting power.

The Steps above was my fix for the uniden wxi477 out of range problem.

Phone message reads


If you are not too far away-not "out of range" then try rehoming/pairing the handset with the base unit. You probably need the phones together to do this. Your manual will explain how-it will have been done in the original setup.

Unable to register handset TWX955 Series


I have a TRU9585 Base.

On the BASE press menu/select, scroll down to register handset using the button to the right of the display, and press select. The LED on the base will flash quickly.

Now pick up the TWX955 handset (the one that won't register), and press and hold # until it registers.

Worked for me.

Handset out of range - message


We totally unplugged the phone, made sure the battery was charged and reset the phone as though it was brand new, in other words started from scratch. It seemed to work and the phone is O.K. now

It could be faulty phones or try replacing the batteries

Same manual as lethean but Page 24 if the previously used Base is Unavailable and your phone shows "Deregistration" in the Menu.

Base Unavailable (Handset Only)
To clear the base registration data in the handset, please follow these steps:
Press and hold "Hang up"and [#] for more than 5 seconds. Select the BASE UNAVAILABLE submenu.
BASE UNAVAILABLE appears. Move the cursor to select YES, and then press the OK soft key.
ARE YOU SURE? appears. Move the cursor to select YES. Press the OK soft key.
