It started few months ago when suddently the screen on my laptop would go dark. Moving the lid up and down would immeditekly solve the problem but recently at startup the screen color was vaguely pink for few seconds and is completely dark again.
Even i f I move the lid or press the switch for the lid, nothing happens. I still can see images in the dark screen but very dim. It works fine on an external monitor. I have changed the inverter but nothing. please help!

I have the exact same problem with my old computer! The problem started after I switched the HDD a long time ago but I never got it (semi-)working again until a few days ago.I completely disassembled the computer and reassembled it again and I finally got something on the screen. I the tried to install win xp but when I pressed the keyboard the problem reoccurred. Therefore I'm fairly sure there is a short circuit or a bad connection somewhere probably on the underside of the motherboard close to the power supply DC-connector.
There may be other screws hidden behind plastic concealing covers.
The front bezel can have retaining clips that clip that lock onto the lid and may also held in place with double sided tape.
Use a thin flat blade (careful not to scratch the LCD screen) and slip it between the bezel and the LCD screen and gently prize it away from the screen. Start at the bottom of the screen near the hinges and work along each edge.
The inverter will be located on the bottom edge of the screen between the hinges.
Hello Karthik, This must surely be a problem with your monitor, because you say that you see the white screen while boot up. If this is a graphic driver issue, you may have the problem after booting up in windows. Since its been only a month old laptop, the product must be in warranty for sure. Take away any CDs in the drive, any USB drives and see if this white screen appears. Let us know.
2 THINGS,one it could be the lcd cable has come loose behind the lid,
or the inverter is faulty.if your happy to take lid off an reseat the cable.
two.the screen cable maybe loose at the motherboard end.unplug power supply, remove battery, and unscrew keyboard, pull off cable an reseat the lcd cable.
Chances it is the lamp. Some lamps are very hard to change. Hopefully yours will be much easier. You did a very good thing changing the inverter first. As you have a 50/50 chance anyway, so now you know it wasn't that. Good luck.
I have the same problem. It happened to me about half a year ago and reinstalling the OS solved it. So it's by no chance a hardware problem. I have a Acer TravelMate 6291. It must be some kind of a software problem, but don't know which one :-(
Reinstall direct x before disassembling the laptop. If the problem is hardware is likely to be LCD display to be replaced, LCD ribbon cable out of place, or graphic chipset defective. Here is download of part list and explode view for your laptop. You can require service manual or schematics for travelmate 4000 on this forum, or check older posts and see if you can find it.
is it completely black or very dark screen ?
if it is completely black, try to reseat memory first, if this is not working, it's look like your motherboard or cpu have problem.
If it is dark screen, it might be your lcd inverter is bad.
