Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a seagate 500gr desktop. After startup if I move it the least little amount it shuts down. If I do not touch it seems to work fine for about 5 to 10 minutes, then shuts down. I did a thorough cleaning of any dust/dirt and removed the fan and heat sink to re-apply thermal paste but this did not help it.

The problem seems to be getting worse. It shuts down before I can do anything in bios. Where in bios will I find spread spectrum?

Try making sure spread spectrum is off. It can be found in the BIOS settings.

I don't know what to do about not being able to get into the BIOS settings, and I'd need your BIOS info to tell you where spread spectrum is.

Touchscreen not working.

Do you hear a beep when you touch the screen? If you do it is more than likely a software issue, or the cameras are misaligned..
First thing to try is Scroll Lock Calibration.. Press Scroll Lock on your keyboard 5 times quickly, your cursor should move to the top left of your screen, press and hold your finger on it until you hear a beep, remove your finger and itshould automatically move to the top right, repeat for each corner, when it is done the cursor will move to the middle of the screen, and the touch screen should be working
If the computer does not beep when you tocuh the cursor and the cursor does not move when you remove your finger it means your touch is not being recognized... it could be a software or hardware issue, here is one way to find out..
First do a power drain.. shut down the computer and unplug everything from it (including the power cord) and press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.. Now boot the computer into BIOS by tapping F10 on startup.. inside the BIOS touch the screen.. do you hear a beep? if so it is a software issue, if not more than likely it is a hardware issue
A few other things you can try... open the Touch Screen Configuration Tool inside the Control Panel, make suire the touch screen and sound are enabled, select the Troubleshooting tab, click Restore Defaults, try the Calibration function... beyond that you could try System Restore/System Recovery..
Good luck

Dell Inspiron 1420. I've installed a new Seagate Momentus XT 500gb 7200rpm hard drive. The computer seems to work fine. However, an "initialization error" popup appears after the desktop loads on startup.

My computer turns off and when restarted says it was shut down due to thermal over heat. Both fans are working.

I would take the unit outside and give it a thorough cleaning, lots of dust accumulates on the cpu fan and heatsink ;)
Afterwards if its working stable I would update the bios firmware, just make sure it doesn't overheat during the upgrade, it's critical!

The Motherboard will have a product or ID number... Search that on Google or the Gateway site. Hopefully you will track down the Specs.

Kandalf LCS liquid not going through the loop

This is most likely an issue with your pump or the water pressure in the loop. Sometimes gravity or a short-circuit in the plumbing can cause water to stall at certain points.

If the pump motor is not vibrating, then that's an immediate indication that your pump is either defective or you have not installed it correctly.

Check to make sure it's got power, water, and sufficient grip on the tubes. If these are all fine, look at getting a replacement for your pump.
